Building the future starts with investing in people – especially those just beginning to imagine what’s possible. At Caterpillar, development isn’t just something we talk about. It’s a commitment we live out every day. Because when individuals grow, teams grow and our communities thrive.
As we continue building a diverse and talented future workforce, programs designed to support and inspire young students play an essential role in that mission. Today, 12 students from Keller ISD and Arlington ISD are part of Caterpillar's Student Trainee Program, contributing to teams across our Irving Headquarters and SPM Fort Worth locations.
Real Work. Real Impact.
As a leadership development experience, the DFW Student Trainee Program gives seniors hands-on exposure to real work across Marketing, Sales, Accounting, Human Resources, Information Technology, Procurement, and other key business and technical areas. Along the way, students build professional confidence, develop workplace skills and form connections with Caterpillar leaders and mentors, helping them prepare for college, future careers and life beyond the classroom.
Showcasing Growth
The program culminates in a Capstone presentation, where students present their work and learning journey to managers and HR leaders. It’s an opportunity for them to reflect on how far they’ve come, demonstrate their growth, and practice telling their own professional story. Each trainee also receives a certificate recognizing their achievements and contributions.
Hear it From the Students
As the 2025–2026 cohort wraps up their experience, we asked a few of the students to reflect on how the program has shaped their goals, confidence, and future direction. See what a few of them had to say about how their internship impacted their future:
- "My time at Caterpillar’s student trainee program has been one of the most rewarding parts of my high school senior year. I loved being part of such an amazing team that helped me grow in ways that went beyond career expertise. During my time at Caterpillar, something that surprised me was the opportunity to experience what it truly feels like to be a full‑time employee, not just in terms of the work itself, but also the professional environment and culture. This program has given me an early start in my career by allowing me to gain real‑world experience, build confidence, and develop skills that will stay with me as I move forward. I am incredibly grateful for everything I’ve learned and look forward to seeing how these experiences shape my journey from here on." - Sana T.
- “During my time at Caterpillar, three things stood out: the work, the expectations, and the environment. As a Talent Acquisition intern, I handle meaningful tasks—reviewing applicants, evaluating resumes, recommending candidates, and coordinating the pre-employment process. I didn’t expect that level of trust as an intern, but at Caterpillar, you’re treated like part of the team. The expectations were just as impactful. You’re pushed to work efficiently and accurately, which builds real-world time‑management and prioritization skills. Lastly, the workplace environment was a pleasant surprise. Instead of being rigid or overly formal, it’s professional, welcoming, and easy to connect with others. That balance of structure and camaraderie has made my experience at Caterpillar genuinely rewarding.” - Gavin P.
- “Getting your foot in the door is often the hardest part of starting a career, and I’m grateful that Caterpillar is where I’ve been able to begin mine. Instead of the typical busy work interns often receive elsewhere, Caterpillar has trusted me with meaningful projects that directly support the team. I’ve had opportunities to collaborate with professionals in the field I’m pursuing, and my supervisors have offered support and guidance far beyond what I expected. Specifically, the discussions I’m able to attend and the one-on-one time with my supervisors have given me meaningful insight into the industry. What surprised me most is how interns are treated like true employees, where our opinions are valued, we’re given real responsibilities, and we’re encouraged to take on complex challenges. I’ve learned not only about my role and the industry, but also about professionalism and the skill sets needed to thrive at an innovative company like Caterpillar. This experience has helped me clarify my goals and better shape my focus as I continue my college journey.” - Rylan C.
- “This program has been an exceptional opportunity to partake in. I am grateful to work with a supportive team that cares about the progress I make, pushing me fully to immerse myself in the corporate world. Having such an experience while still in high school propels me into having a better understanding of the kinds of environments I would like to work in and already feel at ease in a professional setting, which was something I definitely did not expect to have so early in my career. With this foundation, I am more excited than nervous about entering the workforce during and after college.” - Sneha M.
