General Career FAQ 

1. What current job openings are at Caterpillar?  

We are always searching for makers, doers, industry leaders and world builders to join our winning team. Our current openings are posted on Caterpillar Jobs and are updated regularly. You can use filters by location, function, or keywords. 

2. How do I apply for a position at Caterpillar? 

Visit Caterpillar Jobs, search for a role that interests you, and follow the online application process. 

3. How do I check my application status?

4. What documents do I need to submit my application? 

A current resume is most commonly required; however, it’s not always necessary. Job postings list any required documents, which may include a cover letter, certifications, or proof of eligibility to work.  

5. How long does it take to apply for a position?  

The time it takes to apply for a position at Caterpillar is dependent upon the individual and the requirements of the job posting.

6. How can I tell if a job offer/recruiter contact is legitimate? 

All Caterpillar positions are listed on our official Careers site. Legitimate recruiter emails will most likely come from “@cat.com” addresses. It is important that during the application process, Caterpillar Inc. will never:  

  • Request money (e.g., for ‘visa fees,’ taxes, a percentage of travel expenses).

  • Request personal information such as passport and bank account details, social security number, etc.

  • Send emails from free web-based email accounts such as Yahoo, Gmail, or Live.com.

  • Make substantial spelling and grammatical errors.

  • Insist on urgency from the outset.

7. Am I able to apply for multiple positions at the same time? 

Yes. However, the evaluation process and timeline vary for each position. The selection process may not occur at the same time if you apply to multiple positions.  

Once you apply to one position, the profile you created will save your information and uploaded documents, which can be used to apply to other positions. 

When you apply for another position, you can select the option “Use my profile,” which will auto-fill the fields you completed in your previous application. You can also select the option “Saved resumes/CVs,” which will upload the same documents you used in your previous application. 

8. Can I update my application after I have already submitted it? 

No, you are unable to update your application after you submit it in the online portal. You can save your progress while completing an application by selecting “Save and Continue.” Your saved application will appear in your Candidate Home so you can return and finish later. Once your application is submitted, it cannot be edited, but you may withdraw it and reapply creating a new account using a new email address. 

9. How can I withdraw my application? 

You may withdraw your application at any time. To withdraw you application: 

  • Go to careers.caterpillar.com

  • Click login

  • Enter your email address & password that you used to submit your application

  • Under My Applications, you will see an option to ‘Withdraw’ from jobs you’ve applied to.

10. What if I don’t see a role that currently fits my skills or interests?

11. What is the interview process like at Caterpillar?

16. What’s the salary range for a role at Caterpillar?

18. Do you offer Visa sponsorship?

Recruitment fraud is a sophisticated type of activity involving the offer of fictitious job opportunities. Caterpillar is aware of unauthorized and fraudulent recruiting communications using our company name and logo. These communications have been sent to individuals through various channels of communication such as: email, social media accounts (e.g., LinkedIn, Facebook) & phone solicitation. These communications are directed in an attempt to collect financial or personal information which could cause harm or place individuals’ information and identity at risk of disclosure or misuse.

Recent incidents have occurred involving both individuals and organizations falsely claiming to recruit on behalf of Caterpillar Inc.

It is important to keep in mind that during the application process, Caterpillar Inc. will never:
