As a student pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Hugo’s biggest inspiration was Lubomir, a software engineer at Caterpillar. When he was offered an internship, Hugo was inspired not only by Lubomir’s commitment to identifying root causes and solving complex challenges, but also by his focus on developing solutions that address real customer needs. This approach motivated Hugo to make the most of the opportunity and gain meaningful, hands-on experience.
One of Hugo’s most memorable experiences during his internship was participating in Caterpillar’s Global Hackathon for students and graduates. The Hackathon focused on enhancing the capabilities of VisionLink, Caterpillar's platform that enables customers to remotely connect to and monitor their assets through data-driven insights. Hugo recognized that the event’s primary objective extended beyond innovation, emphasizing collaboration, coordination, and effective problem-solving.
Working alongside team members with diverse perspectives and approaches, Hugo discovered that their greatest strengths were their shared commitment to common goals, open communication, and collective perseverance. These qualities enabled the team to successfully balance innovation with practical application, ultimately earning recognition from the event organizers for their creativity and effectiveness.
Hugo believes this is only the beginning and is eager to pursue the opportunities that lie ahead in his career. He says,“An internship should foster a culture of curiosity and a willingness to ask questions. At Caterpillar, I see this culture in action every day.
