The MineStar Test & Validation Engineer is responsible for validating Caterpillar's MineStar technology solutions through proving ground, and field-based testing activities. This position works closely with engineering, product support, operations, and customers to ensure MineStar products meet performance, quality, reliability, and customer expectations before release.
The successful candidate will serve as a technical expert on MineStar applications and mining workflows while developing and executing validation plans for new features, software releases, machine integrations, and system enhancements. This role requires a strong understanding of MineStar applications, mining operations, and the interaction between onboard systems, infrastructure, communications networks, and software platforms.
What You Will Do:
- Plan, develop, and execute validation activities for MineStar products and features.
- Create test plans, test procedures, and validation reports to support product development and release readiness.
- Validate MineStar functionality across proving ground and customer-facing environments.
- Investigate, reproduce, troubleshoot, and document complex software and system issues.
- Partner with development teams to identify root causes and verify corrective actions.
- Support integration testing involving onboard machine systems, MineStar applications, network infrastructure, and supporting technologies.
- Analyze test data and provide recommendations to improve product quality, reliability, and customer experience.
- Collaborate with product groups, validation teams, field follow engineers, and MineStar support teams.
- Travel to customer sites as needed to support validation efforts, field investigations, and technology deployments.
- Participate in new product introductions, field follow activities, and release readiness reviews.
What You Have:
- Industry Knowledge: Knowledge of the organization's industry group, trends, directions, major issues, regulatory considerations, and trendsetters; ability to apply industry knowledge appropriately to diverse situations.
- Experience working with MineStar Products or mining technology solutions
- Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
- Software Product Testing: Knowledge of software product testing; ability to design, plan, and execute testing strategies and tactics to ensure software product quality and adherence to stated requirements.
- o Experience creating and executing structured test plans and validation activities.
- Technical Troubleshooting: Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues on hardware, software, application or operation.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mining Engineering or related field.
Consideration for Top Candidates:
- Experience with MineStar Fleet, Terrain, Health, Detect, or Command.
- Knowledge of surface mining operations and production processes.
- Experience supporting MineStar deployments, field installations, or customer operations.
- Experience with software validation, systems integration, or product verification activities.
- Familiarity with networking, wireless communications, onboard systems, and data collection technologies.
- Understanding of GNSS/GPS technologies, machine guidance systems, or autonomous mining solutions.
- Experience utilizing data analysis tools to evaluate product performance and identify issues.
- Experience supporting field follow, NPI, or release validation programs.
- Ability to independently diagnose complex issues across software, hardware, infrastructure, and operational environments.
Additional Information:
- This position requires the candidate to work full-time onsite at Tucson Proving Grounds.
- Domestic relocation assistance is available for this position.

Summary Pay Range:
$112,710.00 - $183,140.00Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
