Role Overview

The Physical Availability Manager / Site Performance Manager is responsible for driving and sustaining fleet performance across assigned mining operations in Africa. Working closely with customers, dealers, and internal teams, this role ensures equipment availability remains aligned with production requirements, operational objectives and helps customers maximise value from their Cat fleet.

Using a combination of operational expertise and data-driven insights, the Physical Availability Manager identifies performance gaps, leads improvement initiatives, and drives the successful execution of recovery and sustainability plans. Acting as a key point of coordination across stakeholders, the role aligns teams around shared performance targets, resolves issues impacting uptime, and delivers measurable improvements in fleet reliability and site performance.

This is an exciting opportunity for a results-oriented professional who can balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution, leverage performance data to drive decision-making, and build strong partnerships in complex mining environments across Africa.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and drive Physical Availability performance across assigned sites and fleets

  • Establish clear performance baselines (uptime, MTTR, MTBF) and track against agreed targets

  • Maintain accurate reporting of performance metrics (R3, R6 and YTD)

  • Ensure sustainability plans are in place for fleets meeting targets

  • Identify risks early and drive timely escalation and resolution (technical, operational, parts or commercial)

  • Leverage data and analytics to develop structured recovery plans for fleets below target and to identify opportunities for continuous improvement in line with customer requirements

  • Lead monthly performance reviews, execution of recovery plans and continues improvement initiatives

  • Facilitate alignment on priorities, resources and execution timelines

  • Act as the primary interface between customers, dealers and Caterpillar teams for anything that relates to machine performance

  • Build strong, trust-based relationships with dealers and customers across multiple sites and regions

  • Support aftermarket growth through improved performance and CVA alignment

  • Contribute to capability uplift across dealer and site teams

Skills you will have:

Customer focus: Demonstrates a deep understanding of customer needs and have the knowledge of the values and practices that align customer needs and satisfaction as primary considerations in all business decisions and ability to leverage that information in creating customized customer solutions.

Effective communication: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviours.

Relationship management: Demonstrate excellent skills in building and nurturing strong, healthy relationships with clients, vendors, and peers, ensuring fruitful collaborations. Knowledge of customer service concepts and techniques: Must demonstrate the ability to meet or exceed customer needs and expectations and provide excellent service in a direct or indirect manner.

Problem solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.

Field support: Knowledge of and experience with providing post-sales support; ability to support maintenance of caterpillar products.

Consulting: Knowledge of techniques, roles, and responsibilities in providing technical or business guidance to clients, both internal and external; ability to apply consulting knowledge.

What Will Put You Forward:

  • A completed Engineering Degree or a Trade Certificate with significant work-related experience will be considered.

  • Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible job-related experience in the Mining Industry as well as strong understanding of dealer operations and field experience.

  • Ability to work with people from many different backgrounds and cultures, internally and externally, with the appropriate influence and ability to resolve differences at dealer and customer operational level.

  • Strong communication skills and the understanding and knowledge to communicate to the right people and parties at the right level when needed.

Additional Information:

  • Travel: requires at least 40% - 50% across the assigned territory.

  • Must be Fluent in English and French.
