Role Definition
As a Supplier Development Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring suppliers have the necessary manufacturing processes, systems, and capabilities to meet Caterpillar’s quality and performance standards.
What the Candidate Will Do
- Monitor supplier quality performance, including defect rates and trends, and drive improvement actions.
- Conduct supplier assessments, including manufacturing process reviews and quality system audits.
- Support suppliers in improving performance through process controls, quality plans, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Perform on-site QCLDM audits (Quality, Cost, Logistics, Development, Management).
- Drive implementation of Lean, BIQ, and APQP methodologies.
- Review supplier capacity and ensure production readiness.
- Lead and evaluate PPAP submissions to ensure compliance with requirements.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in supplier quality.
Education Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
• Advanced English proficiency (required).

Quality Orientation: Knowledge of quality management methods, tools, and techniques; ability to create and support an environment that meets the quality goals of the organization.
Production Part Approval Process (PPAP): Knowledge of Production Part Approval Processes (PPAP) elements, submissions, and objectives; ability to determine whether a supplier can manufacture products that meet the quality requirements and standards of their customers consistently.
Manufacturing Standards, Procedures and Policies: Knowledge of organizational standards, procedures and policies in manufacturing activities; ability to plan, guide, and monitor manufacturing processes for compliance.
Supplier Management - MFG: Knowledge of processes and methods to effectively manage business relationships and transactions with suppliers of raw materials or product components; ability to apply related knowledge, experience and skills into real practice.
Supplier Evaluations and Certification: Knowledge of supplier evaluations and certification; ability to identify the methods, tools and documentation for evaluating, selecting and certifying vendors, suppliers and partners.
Top candidates will have
• Six Sigma Yellow/Green Belt, ASQ CQE, or equivalent certifications.
• Intermediate working knowledge with audits, APQP, PPAP, and/or manufacturing or supplier quality roles.
• Working knowledge supporting international suppliers.
• Working knowledge in a manufacturing or industrial environment is strongly preferred.
Additional information:
· Full-time, in-office (5 days/week)
· Approximately 25% travel (domestic and international)
· Valid passport and travel visa required
