We’re looking for a Quality Engineer who is energized by solving complex problems, elevating standards, and making a real impact on how products are validated. In this role, you’ll be at the center of engineering validation and quality excellence ensuring processes are robust, data is credible, and the validation systems is always audit‑ready.
You’ll partner closely with Engineering and Operations to turn nonconformances into learning opportunities, strengthen quality systems, and advance a culture where Built‑In Quality isn’t a program—it’s how work gets done. As a Quality Engineer, your work safeguards the integrity of the laboratory’s engineering conclusions through a strong focus on operational excellence. You won’t simply support quality standards, you’ll help define how quality is built into the organization’s daily work, influencing decisions, behaviors, and results across the lab.
What You’ll Do:
Quality Management & Compliance
Lead and perform ISO 17025 audits, clearly documenting and communicating nonconformance findings
Partner with Engineering and Operations to identify root causes and drive effective, sustainable corrective actions
Develop, track, and analyze quality metrics that support laboratory operations and new program readiness
Maintain an audit‑ready Quality Management System, ensuring the integrity and credibility of engineering validation results
Built‑In Quality in Action
Lead Built‑In Quality (BIQ) strategy and deployment across the proving ground to fuel continuous improvement
Apply BIQ principles as part of daily execution to assess process capability and defect containment
Support training and adoption of BIQ practices across manufacturing and support teams
Use data, defect trends, and feedback loops to identify where defects are created
Verify improvement effectiveness by confirming defects are prevented or detected earlier in the value stream
Treat BIQ as a performance‑driven mindset, not a standalone initiative
What You’ll Bring:
Education & Credentials
Bachelor’s degree or 10 years experience
Background In ISO Quality Auditing
Engineering Validation Expertise
Advanced understanding of engineering validation methods, technologies, and end‑to‑end processes
Strong knowledge of engineering validation, roles, workflows, and production cycles
Ability to interpret manufacturing flows and technical documentation at a systems level
Problem Solving & Analysis
Working knowledge of RCCA problem‑solving techniques
Ability to assess risks, evaluate alternatives, and guide informed decisions
Skilled in fact‑finding, diagnostics, and stakeholder‑aware analysis
Quality Systems Knowledge
Foundational knowledge of Quality Management Systems (QMS) and its role in regulatory compliance
Understanding of both automated and manual QMS approaches
Ability to support documentation, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives
What Skills You Will Have:
Accuracy and Attention to Detail Demonstrate a high level of precision when reviewing engineering validation data, audit documentation, and quality records to ensure compliance with ISO 17025 requirements.
Collaborating Knowledge of engineering validation roles, workflows, and production cycles, enabling effective partnership across functions.
Decision Making and Critical Thinking Ability to apply structured critical thinking and risk‑based decision‑making when evaluating nonconformances, corrective actions, and validation outcomes.
Flexibility and Adaptability Ability to adjust quickly to shifting validation schedules, evolving program priorities, and changing customer requirements.
Problem Solving & Analysis Knowledge of how to assess risks, compare alternatives, and guide decisions that strengthen validation processes and defect prevention.
Additional Information:
Primary work location: Tucson Proving Ground – Green Valley, AZ, with a requirement to work on‑site full‑time at a Caterpillar facility.
Domestic relocation assistance is not available.
This position may require up to 10% travel.
Schedule: 9/80 work schedule, providing an extra day off every other week—equivalent to 26 additional days off per year.

Summary Pay Range:
$89,210.00 - $133,810.00Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
