We are currently seeking an Engineering Team Leader (air system components/turbocharge focus) to join the Component Engineering - Wuxi Base L3 Air, Fuel & Aftertreatment Engine Team.

This role is responsible for leading technical team to resolve complex technical problems and deliver components or process improvements within defined cost, quality, and timing targets, while meeting the requirements of both internal and external customers. The successful candidate will serve as an experienced technical leader, guiding engineering activities that are complex in nature and high in business impact.

The Engineering Team Leader will work closely with global manufacturing sites, suppliers, and cross‑functional partners, providing technical direction, coordination, and problem‑solving leadership across geographically distributed teams.

What You Will Do:

As a team leader in the team, you will be expected to have account for up to 80% of assignments the remainder of the time, the incumbent acts as individual contributor, bring technical expertise to the project as well. Team leaders must manage their own development, continuously learning through experience new business knowledge and skill. Program/project management and strong organizational skills are critical, a mix of design and development experience, knowledge of IC engines and be able to lead, plan and execute challenging tasks/projects.

  • Develop world class air system designs to meet design requirements for multiple world-wide applications
  • Collaborate with other engineering teams to develop product requirements for new product programs
  • Collaborate with suppliers to optimize designs to meet performance, reliability, durability, and cost targets
  • Direct the work of off-site engineering groups providing analysis and detailing services
  • Complete design FMEA’s and develop validation requirements for new and improved designs
  • Experience collaborating with suppliers using the APQP process
  • Lead and support projects that promote aftermarket part sales
  • Create product validation plans and lead execution of these plans
  • Analyze field warranty and failure data to resolve product problems
  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans
  • Provide design reviews to update management and stakeholders on project status
  • Keep up to date on current technologies and develop new technologies
  • Communicate technical information to team members, suppliers, internal customers, and other business units

What Skills You Will Have (top 3 skills):

  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
  • Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
  • Influencing Through Expertise: Knowledge of effective influencing tactics and strategies; ability to use these to deepen own expertise and impact or challenge decisions within and outside own organization.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in one of the following: Mechanical or Engine Combustion Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or Agricultural Engineering
  • 8+ years of design engineering experience
  • 5+ years of air system (Turbo, EGR, etc) design and development experience
  • Experience collaborating with engine air system component and system OEM suppliers

Desired Qualifications:

  • Caterpillar design engineering experience
  • Experience with Caterpillar tool and management of activities
  • Incumbents must have demonstrated excellent analytical skills and the ability to perform complex assignments
  • Requires a self-starter with strong technical leadership skills
  • Must have ability to communicate technical information internally and externally with suppliers
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with ability to develop product concepts
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously

This position requires working onsite five days a week.
