1st Shift 6:30am – 2:30pm
2nd Shift 2:30pm – 10:30pm
Pay Range: $23.05- $29.35 per hour
Plus $1.50 premium per hour for 2nd shift

The Opportunity:
We are currently recruiting for an Automation Technician position within our Champaign facility. Depending on business requirements, normal working hours will be 40 hours per week with overtime as required.
This role is essential in supporting production operations by maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing advanced automated systems and robotics equipment throughout the warehouse, ensuring minimal downtime and safe efficient operation of automation systems.
Overview Of Role:
The Logistics Facilities Automation Technician is responsible for the advanced maintenance, repair, and operation of all facility systems and equipment in a logistics warehouse environment. This position involves performing routine preventative & corrective maintenance troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, controls automation, and general facilities tasks. The technician will troubleshoot, repair, and optimize systems to ensure the facility operates efficiently and safely. Additionally, Logistics Facilities Automation Technician will mentor Maintenance Team Members, assist in driving maintenance projects, and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

- Advanced Robotic, Mechanical and Electrical Skills: Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical with the ability to perform more complex repairs and troubleshooting.
- Problem solving & Troubleshooting: Ability to efficiently identify and resolve complex maintenance issues.
- Time Management & Organization: Skill in managing multiple maintenance tasks while ensuring minimal operational disruption.
- Safety and Compliance: Knowledge of OSHA standards and ability to maintain a safe work environment through safe work practices.
- Leadership and Teamwork: Ability to mentor Maintenance Team Members, assist with training, and contribute to team success.
- Attention to Detail: Ensure high-quality work and preventive maintenance to reduce downtime and prevent breakdowns.
Key Deliverables:
- Perform advanced maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting on robotic, pneumatic, electrical, mechanical, and automated systems.
- Install, calibrate, and repair complex equipment, such as conveyor systems, automated machinery, and control systems.
- Lead and coordinate preventive maintenance tasks to ensure equipment and systems operate optimally and reduce unexpected downtime.
- Conduct systems inspections, identifying problems before they affect operations and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
- Respond to emergency maintenance requests, resolving issues with minimal disruption to the facility’s operations.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to Maintenance Team, helping develop their skills and knowledge.
- Assist in managing and maintaining inventory levels of maintenance supplies and parts, ensuring timely procurement and availability.
- Document all maintenance and repair activities in a maintenance management system (E-Maintenance), ensuring accurate and up-to-date records of completed tasks, parts used, and time spent.
- Assist in implementing facility improvement projects, providing technical input, and supporting the execution of upgrades or modifications.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, including handling hazardous material and waste disposal.
- Participate in root cause analysis and recommend system improvements to reduce reoccurring issues and enhance efficiency.
- Assist in managing external contractors or service providers for specialized maintenance tasks.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in facilities maintenance, ideally in a logistics warehouse, or industrial environment.
- Strong technical skills in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, electrical, and Automation systems.
- Experience working with building automation systems, control systems, and industrial machinery.
- Proficient in using hand and power tools, diagnostic equipment, and test instruments.
- Familiarity with safety standards, including OSHA regulations, and the ability to always adhere to them.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with team members, supervisors, and external contractors.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work in a physically demanding role, including lifting heavy equipment, climbing ladders, and performing repairs in various settings.
Desired Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree in facilities management, mechanical/electrical engineering, or related field preferred.
- Certification in electrical or mechanical maintenance.
- Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (E- Maintenance)
- Knowledge of safety standards such as NFPA 70E, lockout/tagout, and other relevant procedures,
- Experience working with building automation systems, control systems, and industrial machinery.
- Previous experience in a supervisory or leadership role, including mentoring or training technicians
Technology Requirements:
- Proficiency in maintenance management software (e.g., E-Maintenance) to track work orders, inventory, and preventive maintenance schedules.
- Ability to work with computerized control systems, sensors, and building automation systems for system monitoring and troubleshooting.
- Ability to use mechanical and electrical diagnostic tools
Other Requirements:
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, or on-call shifts based on the facility’s needs.
- Reliable transportation and the ability to commute to separate locations or facilities as required.
- Strong physical stamina and the ability to perform tasks involving lifting, bending, climbing, and standing for extended periods.
- Ability to collaborate with contractors, vendors, and other internal departments to resolve issues and perform maintenance projects.

Summary Pay Range:
$23.05 - $29.35Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
