Caterpillar products generate and process large amounts of data from sensors, on‑board models, and control algorithms in real time, creating real‑world machine usage information.
As part of Caterpillar’s overall digital strategy, an integrated family of machine‑based information technology products has been developed to interconnect machines and provide real‑time guidance, tracking, monitoring, and supervisory control of the operational mining fleet. The MineStar product range links with other mining and business information systems and is an integral part of the Mining Technology Enabled Solutions vision.
We are seeking a DevOps Engineer to join our operations team. This role focuses on designing, implementing, and owning automation solutions that improve reliability, scalability, security, and delivery speed across the entire software development lifecycle. The role operates with limited supervision, provides technical ownership, and influences automation standards across teams.
What you'll do
Design and implement end‑to‑end automation solutions across build, test, deployment, and infrastructure lifecycles.
Partner with Agile delivery teams to define automation strategy, identify systemic inefficiencies, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Collaborate with developers and quality engineers to standardize pipelines, environments, and workflows, reducing manual effort and operational risk.
Design, implement, and support robust CI/CD pipelines, proactively removing delivery bottlenecks and improving deployment reliability.
Take ownership of complex automation and deployment issues, performing root‑cause analysis and driving long‑term corrective solutions.
Coordinate with multiple Agile teams to identify, manage, and resolve technical dependencies impacting delivery and operations.
Work closely with external and enterprise teams to ensure alignment with corporate architecture, security, and compliance standards.
Establish and maintain automation standards, best practices, and reusable templates across teams.
Document automation designs, operational procedures, and runbooks in Confluence, and plan and track work in Azure DevOps.
Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and peers, raising overall automation maturity within the organization.
What you'll bring
5+ years of experience in automation, DevOps, or platform engineering roles, with demonstrated ownership of complex systems.
Experience in scripting and coding for Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
Hands‑on experience with AWS services, including containerized and orchestrated platforms such as Kubernetes.
Deep working knowledge of CI/CD tooling and practices, including Jenkins, GitHub, and Azure DevOps, at enterprise scale.
Preferable Microsoft Azure certifications, such as:
Azure Administrator Associate
Azure DevOps Engineer Expert
Azure Solutions Architect Expert
or equivalent relevant Azure credentials
Experience working with database platforms and services, including SQL Server and Postgres.
Proven experience supporting microservices‑based architectures in production environments.
Solid understanding of compliance and quality frameworks (e.g. ISO) and how they apply to automated delivery pipelines.
Working development knowledge in .NET, Java, and/or Python, sufficient to review code, troubleshoot issues, and contribute where required.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to influence technical decisions across teams.
This role supports the delivery of construction industries technology utilization and adoption across dealer and customer operations. The focus is not just selling technology, but ensuring it is used effectively to deliver productivity, safety, and aftermarket outcomes.
You will work with dealers and customers to help close the gap between technology installed and technology used, supporting execution in the field.
Key Responsibilities
Drive Utilization & Execution
Support actions to increase utilization of Cat technologies across installed fleets (Grade, Payload, VisionLink, Safety)
Identify underutilized machines and work with dealers/customers to improve usage
Support consistent execution to ensure technology delivers practical outcomes
Dealer Capability & Accountability
Support development of dealer capability to drive technology adoption and ongoing use
Participate in dealer reviews and support tracking against utilization targets
Assist in follow-up actions to address execution gaps
Customer Engagement & Value Delivery
Work with customers to improve jobsite performance through technology
Support jobsite reviews and identify productivity, safety, and efficiency opportunities
Help translate technology features into clear, practical customer value
Training & Enablement
Deliver and support training for dealer teams and customers to improve adoption and usage
Assist with onboarding of new technologies and features into dealer operations
Support consistent positioning of technology in the field
Opportunity & Growth Focus
Identify opportunities to improve utilization and support incremental sales
Contribute to growth in key technology metrics
Use available data and insights to help prioritise actions
Cross-Functional Execution
Work with product, digital, and support teams to address issues impacting adoption
Provide field feedback on product gaps, training needs, and adoption barriers
Support rollout of GTM programs and new technology releases
Skills & Experience Required
Good combination of sales capability and technical/application understanding
Experience in machine control & guidance, telematics, machine technology systems, and civil construction applications
Experience in construction, mining, or heavy equipment environments
Ability to support execution through dealers and customers
Ability to interpret data and support actions and outcomes
Strong communication and influencing skills
Hands-on, field-oriented approach with a focus on delivery
