Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Laser Cladding Technician with specialized skills in performing laser cladding processes for repairing and restoring shafts, housings, and other critical components. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in laser cladding equipment operation, materials science, and precision repair techniques to extend the lifecycle of industrial parts.

  • Starting Pay: $43.85, additional based on experience
  • Schedule: Currently Monday – Friday 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM, must be flexible and willing to work a rotating second shift schedule as business needs require
  • Overtime based on business need

What you will do:

  • Operate and maintain laser cladding equipment to apply high-quality metal coatings on shafts, housings, and other repair components.
  • Prepare and inspect components to ensure suitability for laser cladding, including cleaning, grinding, and dimensional verification.
  • Perform laser cladding in accordance with specifications, standards, and safety requirements to build up worn or damaged areas.
  • Conduct pre- and post-cladding inspections including visual checks, dimensional measurements, and non-destructive testing (NDT) methods.
  • Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to develop and optimize cladding procedures and repair solutions.
  • Monitor process parameters such as laser power, feed rate, and powder flow to ensure consistent coating quality.
  • Document repair processes, maintain records of work performed, and assist in reporting for quality control.
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on laser cladding equipment to minimize downtime.
  • Follow workplace safety regulations, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), laser safety protocols, and safe handling of materials and equipment.
  • Identify and mitigate potential hazards in the work area to ensure a safe working environment for self and fellow team members.
  • Participate in safety training and continuous improvement initiatives related to laser cladding operations.

What you will have:

  • Strong attention to detail and quality-focused mindset.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Top Candidates will have:

  • Proven experience (3+ years) in laser cladding or similar surface engineering processes.
  • Strong knowledge of metallurgical principles relevant to cladding materials and substrates.
  • Experience with laser cladding equipment, including fiber lasers, powder feeders, and CNC machines, preferred.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, repair specifications, and technical documents.
  • Familiarity with repair procedures for shafts, housings, and other critical industrial components.
  • Skilled in precision measurement techniques and non-destructive testing methods.
  • Relevant technical or vocational certification in welding, metal fabrication, or materials science is a plus.
  • Comprehensive understanding of safety practices in laser operations and industrial repair settings.

Summary Pay Range:

$43.85 - $50.40

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
