Job Summary

Business Process Specialist is an experienced individual contributor responsible for ensuring the continuous, cost-effective delivery of IT services for Caterpillar IT. The position drives service quality & manages expectations through Solution ownership of the FR3 (spend lifecycle management) application and AI-enabled automation solutions & capabilities, leading Solution strategies, service improvement initiatives, etc. to align IT services with business needs and budgets. This role will be accountable for Solution ownership of FR3 and associated AI-driven solutions, analytics, predictive insights, and intelligent automation capabilities reports for the Caterpillar IT Vendor Management Office (VMO). The role will ensure IT services consistently meet agreed service levels, align with business priorities, and deliver value within established service levels and quality parameters.

Acting as a strategic valued partner to internal stakeholders, this role plays a critical role in supporting, developing, and enhancing solutions and reports driving operational excellence through disciplined IT service management practices including but not limited to AI-enabled decision support, process intelligence, and automation at scale. Strong candidates will bring deep expertise in solution ownership and development, IT service management, and process optimization, using data driven insights and industry best practices to influence decisions, mitigate risk, and enhance customer satisfaction along with AI developed systems & solutions.

What You Will Do:

  • You will be a part of the IT Vendor Management team managing a spend lifecycle platform as the lead administrator & Solution Owner, creating forecast visibility through business intelligence reporting and analytics, optimize the use of data tables for more informed decision-making, develop and maintain platform integrations, develop and manage business processes and workflows, directly supporting the Caterpillar Information Technology leaders.
  • Lead exploration, strategy, development, implementation and support of agent-based AI (autonomous workflows), copilots, and generative AI assistants across vendor management processes.
  • This position helps guide leaders through the planning, approval, and execution steps for third party spend, contract management, and post execution service delivery management.
  • You will also provide leadership to a team of developers managing the platform roadmap driving future enhancements and releases - utilizing Agile methodology and the Azure DevOps tools.
  • You will be recognized within the Caterpillar IT community as a platform leader and expert in the management of information technology spend and contract workflows.

Critical Work Role Position Performs:

  • The Solution Owner directly supports Caterpillar IT VMO, IT Service Owners, spend/transactional coordinators, and other teams for the management and execution of their third party spend lifecycle management, bringing together forecasted spend, budget approvals, and initiating and aligning all contract management activities. The role directly manages the data, integrations, platform development, and reporting for the Caterpillar Vendor Management Operations team. This Owner manages the data and tools helping guide leaders through the planning, approval, and execution steps for third party spend, contract management, and post execution service delivery management.
  • Actively manage the FR3 application, reporting, analytics, data tables, integrations supporting the Caterpillar IT VMO Team. The position would be the lead FR3 administrator, access/permissions, database/platform integrations, audits, risks, roadmap/enhancements, development, deployment.
  • AI/ML and generative AI capabilities to enhance forecasting, contract insights, and workflow automation. Create predictive forecasting and AI-driven spend insights using enterprise data sources. Design and implement intelligent workflows leveraging automation and AI agents (e.g., approval routing, anomaly detection, contract classification). Develop and maintain AI-powered integrations across Procurement, Finance, and IT platforms. Lead roadmap execution incorporating machine learning models, GenAI use cases, and decision intelligence capabilities. Guide IT leaders using AI-assisted insights for planning, approval, risk identification, and vendor performance management. Lead development teams delivering AI-enabled product enhancements using Agile and Azure DevOps

Skills + Experiences

  • Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions/enhancements. Knowledge of machine learning, predictive analytics, and generative AI techniques; ability to apply AI models to solve business problems. Experience using AI platforms (e.g., Azure OpenAI, Azure ML, Databricks, or similar) for enterprise solutions
  • Business: Knowledge of the business activities, tasks, and workflows for managing spend and contracts; ability to assess the business value, impacted activities, workflows, risks, and user interface.
  • Workflows: The lead enables the alignment of the IT forecasted spend, budget approvals, and initiation of contract management activities. Design and implement intelligent workflows using automation, AI agents, and event-driven architectures. Enable AI-assisted decision-making within business processes
  • Applications: The ability to leverage multiple applications and associated data tables for delivery of services focused on improving the end user experiences and improve the speed to delivery.
  • Collaboration: Manage enterprise platforms leveraging M365, Dataverse, Power Platform, and AI integrations, ensuring seamless connectivity across Procurement, Finance, and IT systems. Drive centralized data availability for AI model consumption and enterprise-scale intelligence.
  • Design: Ability to convert business requirements into the platform design and manage continuous improvements to a user testing and release schedule across multiple business user personas. Translate business requirements into AI-enabled solutions, including model design, prompt engineering (for GenAI), and automation logic. Manage iterative improvement cycles including model tuning, validation, and release management.
  • Deployment: Develop focused communications and change management activities for end-users and internal administrative. Lead AI solution deployment and change management, including user enablement and adoption of AI-assisted processes. Communicate AI capabilities clearly to business stakeholders
  • Technology: Knowledge of the features and facilities of Procurement and Accounting systems; ability to integrate and communicate among applications, databases and technology platforms. Knowledge of integrating AI/ML services with enterprise platforms, APIs, and databases. Experience with cloud-based AI ecosystems (Azure preferred)
  • Administration: Manage platform access/permissions, database/platform integrations, audits, risks, roadmap/enhancements, development, and deployments. Manage platform access, integrations, and AI lifecycle governance (model versioning, monitoring, bias/risk oversight). Maintain platform roadmap including AI enhancements and automation initiatives.
  • Governance: Provide direct support to the Spend Business Office (SBO) for prioritization and development of enhancements and support annual audit evaluations.
  • Reporting: Replace static reporting with AI-generated insights and narratives, Predictive alerts and anomaly detection, Natural language query capabilities (chat-based insights)
  • Coordination: Coordinates with the Indirect Procurement Center of Excellence (CoE) on reporting, available data tables, data quality, required metadata, data dictionaries.
  • Information: Knowledge of the methods, channels and processes to obtain needed information; ability to identify, capture and document relevant business information in an auditable, organized, understandable and easily retrievable manner. Capture and structure data for AI consumption, knowledge models, and automated reasoning systems.
  • Environment: Knowledge of an organization's IT purposes and activities; ability to create an effective IT environment for Vendor Management business operations.
  • Standards: Knowledge of Information Technology (IT) standards and policies; ability to utilize a variety of administrative skill sets and technical knowledge to manage IT policies, standards, and procedures.

  • Understanding of the unique aspects of technology that can and will be utilized for solution architecture and deployments.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Fluent in the English language both written and verbal.
  • Well-developed collaboration skills communicating across the organization and reaching consensus on specific actions.
  • Functional leadership. Capable of leading teams and resources to effective solutions.
  • Analytical, problem solving, and project leadership skill.
  • Bachelor’s degree
