MWM offers energy solutions based on high-performance gas engines, used in highly efficient combined heat and power (CHP) plants for decentralized energy generation. Our customized cogeneration power plants and integrated solutions support our customers in making their energy supply efficient, flexible, and future-proof. In 1871, Carl Benz laid the basis for MWM by founding the “Mechanical Workshop“ in Mannheim. Today, the MWM brand is part of Caterpillar Energy Solutions and combines more than 150 years of experience in the development and optimization of gas engines and generator sets for natural gas, biogas, and other special gases.

MWM currently has an opportunity for a Service Technician based in Indonesia. Reporting to the Service Area Manager, this role performs installation and maintenance of equipment while ensuring safety and performance standards.

What You Will Do:

Equipment Inspection and Diagnosis:

1. Visual Inspection

  • Conduct a thorough visual inspection of the exterior of the gas internal combustion engine generator set, including the casing, piping, valves, and connectors.

  • Examine the identification and labels on the equipment to ensure they are intact and legible, including equipment nameplates and operational instruction labels.

2. Performance Parameter Monitoring

  • Utilize professional testing instruments, such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and pressure sensors, to monitor key performance parameters of the generator set in real-time.

  • Analyze the operational data records of the generator set, such as running time, start-stop frequency, and fault alarm records, to assess the equipment's operational status trends and predict potential faults.

3. Fault Diagnosis

  • Use professional knowledge and experience to accurately diagnose equipment faults.

  • Employ fault tree analysis and other methods to delve into complex faults.

Repair Work:

1. Mechanical Component Repair

  • Inspect and repair mechanical components of the gas internal combustion engine, such as the crankshaft, connecting rods, and pistons.

2. Electrical System Repair

  • Examine electrical components of the generator set, such as the generator, starter motor, and control cabinet.

  • Repair or replace damaged electrical wiring, including wires, cables, and connectors.

3. Gas System Repair

  • Clean or replace gas filters to ensure the cleanliness of the gas supply.

  • Maintain the gas pressure regulating device to ensure the gas pressure remains within the appropriate range. Regularly check the sensitivity and accuracy of the regulating device, and calibrate or replace it if necessary.

Maintenance Work:

1. Cleaning Maintenance

  • Regularly clean the gas internal combustion engine generator set, removing dust, oil stains, and debris from the surface.

  • Clean the cooling system of the equipment, including the coolant tank, radiator, and cooling fan.

2. Lubrication Maintenance

  • In accordance with the equipment manual, regularly change the lubricating oil and grease. Inspect the quality of the lubricating oil, such as its color and viscosity.

  • Lubricate the lubrication points of the equipment, such as bearings and gears.

3. Preventive Maintenance

  • Develop a preventive maintenance schedule based on the equipment's operating hours and usage. Regularly update the control system software and optimize parameters to improve the equipment's operational efficiency and reliability.

Field Service and Communication:

1. Field Service Response

  • Respond promptly to equipment failure reports and arrive at the site in a timely manner. Before arriving, preliminarily assess the potential issues based on the failure report and prepare the necessary repair tools and spare parts.

  • Adhere to safety operating procedures to ensure the safety of oneself and others.

2. Customer Communication

  • Maintain good communication with customers to understand the equipment's usage and their requirements. Explain the causes of equipment faults, repair and maintenance plans, and costs to the customers.

  • Collect customer feedback on equipment operation and repair and maintenance services. Timely improve work methods and service quality based on the feedback. Provide personalized repair and maintenance service suggestions according to the customer's special needs.

  • Anticipates customers' needs and satisfies them proactively.

  • Resolves complex customer complaints or problems.

Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.

  • Assesses and validates decision options and points and predicts their potential impact.

Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.

  • Develops successful resolutions to critical or wide-impact problems.

Preventive Maintenance: Knowledge of hardware systems and its functioning; ability to inspect and correct errors with hardware systems and applying measures proactively to ensure stable functioning.

  • Designs procedures for preventive measures to help improve efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Monitors preventive maintenance system operations and advises on adjustments needed for the system.

  • Coordinates resources for maintenance, repair and overhaul of plant equipment.

Mechanical/Machinery: Knowledge of machines and tools; ability to use knowledge of machinery or mechanical objects including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.

  • Identifies complex problems and reviews related information regarding use, operation, maintenance and repair of equipment/machines to develop, evaluate and implement solutions.

  • Overhauls and tests complex machines or equipment to ensure operating efficiency.

5S Housekeeping: Knowledge of 5S Housekeeping concepts; ability to design, implement and sustain 5S housekeeping strategies to ensure standardization of workplace operations.

  • Champions 5S as part of the bigger picture of establishing good manufacturing practices along with other elements of LEAN, or Just in Time, or World Class.

Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing environment.

  • Establishes best practices for distinguishing mechanical, electronic or systems problems.

Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Policy Compliance: Knowledge of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) policies; ability to implement EHS policies to ensure that provided products and services are safe for people and the environment and in compliance with legal requirements and standards.

  • Uses safety or personal protective equipment, e.g. safety boots and protective eyewear.

  • Completes incident report forms after detecting risks or hazards in the workplace.

Others:

  • Background in Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering

  • Certifications such as Gas Handling, Electrical Safety or engine repair & maintenance preferred

Additional Info:

  • This role requires travelling up to 75% of the time.

  • This position requires working onsite five days a week.
