Our Product Support and Logistics Division (PSLD) is one of the most innovative divisions within Caterpillar. In PSLD, as within all of Caterpillar, our priority is our customers and helping them build a better world. We touch nearly every element of the services value stream. PSLD is responsible for Aftermarket Parts Distribution of Cat Parts, Integrated Logistics and Global Services supporting Caterpillar dealers and customers. Our teams work together in critical areas that leverage digital capabilities, technology and operational excellence.

The Development Analyst (TEMP) processes and analyzes samples to provide timely results to a variety of internal and external customers, meeting all ISO 9001 quality expectations. This position is responsible for providing analytical sample processing and data review to support SOS SM Services initiatives. Incumbent uses a variety of analytical techniques and wet chemistry to process oil, fuel, and source water and/or coolant samples submitted by customers. Engineers and dealers use results to manage equipment preventive maintenance schedules.

What You Will Do:

  • Collaborating across all shifts to provide a smooth transition of data review and processing to meet daily turnround times.
  • Leveraging a variety of analytical and wet chemistry techniques to process oil, fuel, and coolant samples from all heavy equipment manufacturers across the globe.
  • Developing and maintaining positive relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Adhering to all quality assurance and safety standards.

    • Log of Non-conforming Samples
    • Waste Disposal and EHS compliance
    • Fuel Testing (Particle Count, Physical Tests, Oxidation Stability, Distillation, Color, % Biodiesel Pour Point & Cloud Point, Flash Point, Bacteria/Fungus Testing)
    • Particle Count Analysis
    • Viscosity Analysis
    • Sample Dilution
    • FTIR Analysis
    • Gas Chromatography
    • Fuel Sulfur Analyzer Analysis
    • Titrate Analysis (TBN, TAN and Karl Fisher)
    • Coolant Physical Testing (data entry)
    • Monitor of Samples in Process
    • Coolant Nitrite Titrations (including check standards)
    • Instrument Data Archive
    • Coolant pH, Conductivity and RI Testing
    • Ownership of Designated Processes
    • Completion Billing form and Received Dates
    • Instrument Troubleshooting
    • IC/HPLC Analysis
    • Utilization of Instrument Manager
    • Preparation of Reagents and standards
    • ICP Analysis
    • Visual Inspection
    • Daily Instrument Validation (Weight Audits, daily checks)


What You Have (Basic Requirements):

• Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.

• Product Testing: Knowledge of product testing approaches, techniques and tools; ability to design, plan and execute testing strategies and tactics to ensure product quality at all stages of manufacturing.

• Quality Management System (QMS): Knowledge of Quality Management System's (QMS) functions, features, and capabilities; ability to design, implement, test, and maintain Quality Management Systems to consistently meet customer requirements and regulatory compliances.

What Will Set You Apart (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Four-year degree in chemistry or related field (biology, bio-chemistry, chemical engineering, etc.) or equivalent work experience
  • Direct/Quality lab experience (example background: Pharmaceutical tech)
  • Team lead experience
  • Laboratory Skills
  • Computer Skills
  • Operations background – manufacturing or machining experience
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience and willingness to operate in a team environment

Summary Pay Range:

$72,360.00 - $108,540.00
