EngineeringJob Description:
Your Work Shapes the World at Caterpillar Inc.
When you join Caterpillar, you're joining a global team who cares not just about the work we do – but also about each other. We are the makers, problem solvers, and future world builders who are creating stronger, more sustainable communities. We don't just talk about progress and innovation here – we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.
Job Responsibilities:
- Take the lead in constructing a full-dimensional performance evaluation system for battery packs adapted to construction machinery scenarios, covering five core dimensions: electrical performance (power/energy/efficiency), thermal performance (temperature control & thermal runaway protection), mechanical performance (vibration/shock/integration protection grade), durability performance (cycle/calendar life), and safety performance (abuse & thermal runaway). Form executable evaluation standards and standardized methodologies.
- Take charge of building performance testing and validation platforms, formulating test schemes, acceptance criteria and data analysis models for key indicators, and ensure the full-life-cycle implementation of the evaluation system across all projects.
- Lead the whole-process tackling of critical battery system performance issues, including fault location, root cause analysis, solution formulation, verification & implementation, and effect closed-loop management. Prioritize resolving pain points unique to construction machinery scenarios, such as low high-rate charge-discharge efficiency, extreme working condition temperature control failure, insufficient vibration fatigue life, and substandard cycle service life.
- Drive full-link battery pack optimization based on performance data insights. Deliver cross-module actionable optimization schemes covering battery cell selection, structural design, thermal management strategies, and BMS control logic, to ensure key performance indicators meet targets and achieve continuous iterative improvement.
- Undertake technical guidance and team capability building for the battery system performance evaluation team. Develop talent training programs, organize technical exchanges and experience sharing sessions, and enhance the team’s overall professional competence and project delivery efficiency.
- Establish and accumulate systematic battery performance optimization methodologies, failure case databases and simulation model libraries. Promote internal knowledge, inheritance and reuse, and build core technological competitiveness for the enterprise. Promote technical innovation and patent layout, complete technical documentation and intellectual property applications.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Vehicle Engineering, Electrochemistry, Mechanical Engineering, Power Engineering, Engineering Thermophysics, or related fields.
- 8+ years of experience in power battery pack system development, with preference given to candidates with 5+ years of experience in systematic evaluation and optimization of battery packs for construction machinery, commercial vehicles, or energy storage scenarios. Must have full life-cycle project experience of battery pack products from concept to mass production.
- Led the systematic performance evaluation, benchmarking analysis, and optimization of at least 2 mass-produced power battery packs, with clear achievements in improving performance indicators.
- Familiar with typical working conditions and application scenarios of construction machinery; understand the performance degradation and failure mechanisms of battery packs under high-rate, wide-temperature-range, and high-vibration environments. Experience in solving related problems is preferred.
- Proficient in system-level performance evaluation methods for battery packs; familiar with testing standards, equipment, and data analysis methods for electrical, thermal, mechanical, durability, and safety performance. Capable of independently building and implementing a system-level performance evaluation system.
- Possess solid battery pack system optimization capabilities; understand the impact mechanisms of cell selection, structural design, thermal management optimization, and BMS strategy optimization on system performance. Able to deliver actionable cross-module optimization solutions.
- Skilled in using battery performance testing equipment, simulation analysis tools (e.g., thermal simulation, structural simulation, electrochemical simulation), and data analysis software. Capable of independently completing performance testing, data analysis, and report output.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills; able to drive multi-team collaboration (design, BMS, validation, process, etc.) to solve complex performance issues and lead cross-departmental performance improvement projects.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and stress tolerance; able to lead major performance improvement projects and efficiently drive problem resolution in parallel multi-project and resource-constrained environments.
- Good English reading, writing, and communication skills; able to participate in cross-regional/cross-departmental technical reviews and project communications and read and understand English technical documents and industry standards.
- Relevant work experience in leading battery companies, construction machinery OEMs, or commercial vehicle companies is preferred.
