As a Facilities Engineer Lead, you will serve as a key engineering resource supporting one of Caterpillar's largest and most visible facilities initiatives. This role will help develop and execute technical solutions associated with a multi-year facility infrastructure and workplace transformation effort. The successful candidate will work closely with program leadership, engineering consultants, contractors, and facility stakeholders to support safe, effective, and efficient project execution.

You will partner closely with Program Managers, Facilities Leadership, Engineering teams, contractors, consultants, and suppliers to help ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in alignment with business objectives.

The successful candidate will combine engineering expertise with strong project execution skills to support operational readiness and long-term facility strategies.

The ideal candidate is technically strong, solutions-oriented, and comfortable working in complex environments where collaboration, accountability, and execution are essential to success.

What You Will Do

Engineering & Technical Leadership

  • Support the development and implementation of engineering solutions associated with large-scale capital projects in the Peoria Area.
  • Develop and review technical scopes, specifications, and project requirements.
  • Evaluate engineering designs, plans, and contractor submissions.
  • Evaluate alternatives and drive recommendations related to scope, sequencing, constructability, cost, schedule, and risk.
  • Integrate HVAC, electrical, fire protection, lighting, ceiling, structural, and life-safety systems into a unified execution strategy.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues during project execution.

Capital Project Execution

  • Support planning, design, construction, and implementation activities of board-level decisions.
  • Evaluate engineering decisions that impact long-term cost, constructability, schedule, and operational readiness.
  • Assist with schedule planning, budget management, and project execution.
  • Conduct project reviews and technical assessments throughout delivery.

Safety & Compliance

  • Promote safe project execution and adherence to established standards.
  • Support compliance with engineering requirements and regulatory expectations.
  • Participate in site reviews, inspections, and project audits as needed.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Partner with senior leaders, Facilities, Corporate Real Estate, Engineering, HR, Communications, Legal, Procurement, Security, Safety, and Business Operations teams.
  • Support contractor coordination and technical issue resolution.
  • Present technical recommendations to executive leadership and governance bodies.
  • Translate complex engineering issues into business decisions.

What You Have

Engineering Expertise

  • Experience supporting facilities, infrastructure, construction, or capital projects, especially large projects exceeding $25M+.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals and technical problem-solving capabilities across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Experience with facility modernization and infrastructure renewal initiatives
  • Experience in regulated or highly visible environments

Project Execution

  • Understanding of project delivery and construction execution processes.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and project activities simultaneously.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.

Communication & Collaboration

  • Strong communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Collaborative approach to solving business and project challenges.

What Will Set You Apart

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License
  • Industrial or manufacturing facilities experience
  • Construction engineering experience
  • Capital project delivery experience
  • Project management experience
  • Knowledge of HVAC, electrical, fire protection, or building systems design
  • Knowledge of OSHA and construction safety practices

The successful candidate will be recognized as a trusted engineering partner who ensures projects are technically sound, executed safely, and delivered successfully for a highly visible facilities initiative. They will provide clear engineering direction, influence key capital and remediation decisions, successfully integrate multiple building systems and contractor teams, and help deliver a safe, cost-effective, and technically sound long-term solution. Their recommendations will directly influence enterprise-level decisions affecting employee experience, business continuity, and long-term facility strategy.

Summary Pay Range:

$147,760.00 - $221,640.00
