Job Description:

Your Work Shapes the World at Caterpillar Inc.

When you join Caterpillar, you're joining a global team who cares not just about the work we do – but also about each other. We are the makers, problem solvers, and future world builders who are creating stronger, more sustainable communities. We don't just talk about progress and innovation here – we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.

Join Caterpillar's Autonomy team and play a key role in launching autonomous technology at quarry operations in North America.

As an Autonomous Hauling Technology Specialist, you'll be at the forefront of bringing Cat® MineStar™ Command for Hauling to life, helping customers successfully adopt and optimize one of the most advanced autonomous haulage systems in the world. Working directly on-site, you'll partner with customers, Cat dealers, and Caterpillar experts to ensure autonomous operations are running safely, efficiently, and at peak performance.

This is a highly visible role where you'll lead the implementation and operational ramp‑up of Command for Hauling at active quarry operations. You'll troubleshoot complex system challenges, optimize performance, provide expert guidance, and help customers realize the full value of autonomous hauling technology. While you'll spend your time in the field, your focus is on technical leadership, problem-solving, and relationship building.

Why this role is different

Unlike large mining operations, quarry environments offer a unique opportunity to see the direct results of your work every day. With smaller teams, fewer machines, and a highly collaborative environment, your ideas, decisions, and improvements can have a significant impact on the entire operation. This is not a role where you're one of many, it's a chance to be a driving force behind meaningful change and be recognized for the value you bring.

As Caterpillar continues to invest in and expand Autonomous Hauling Solutions within the quarry industry, you'll have the opportunity to help shape the future of autonomy in a rapidly growing market. Join a team that is pioneering innovation, transforming operations, and creating the next generation of autonomous quarry solutions.

What you will do:

  • Lead the successful implementation of MineStar™ Command for Hauling at customer quarry, ensuring operational readiness, coordinating go-live activities, and driving system stabilization to achieve key performance targets.

  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor to customers, coaching operations and maintenance teams on the safe, effective, and sustainable use of autonomous hauling technology while developing local subject matter experts.

  • Manage and optimize the integration of onboard and offboard systems, including machine control, autonomous technologies, communication networks, and electronic systems, to ensure reliable fleet performance.

  • Monitor system performance & reliability, analyze operational data and trends, troubleshoot complex issues, conduct root-cause analysis, and implement solutions that improve reliability, productivity, and system utilization in collaboration with cross-functional teams.

  • Champion safety, continuous improvement & performance sustainment, by driving best practices, leading corrective actions, and conducting regular site engagements to sustain safe and reliable operations, optimize autonomy system performance, and maximize long-term customer value.

  • Partner with Caterpillar engineering and product teams to resolve technical challenges, enhance system capabilities, and influence future product development.

  • Capture and communicate Voice of Customer feedback to help shape product roadmaps, new features, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Contribute to the development of Remote Operations Support capabilities by improving processes, tools, and best practices as autonomous mining solutions continue to scale globally.

What you’ll bring:

Technical Excellence: Deep technical expertise in mining or quarry technologies, including machine control systems, off-board communications, networking, electronic system integration, or autonomous mining solutions. Hands‑on experience implementing or supporting MineStar Command for Hauling in operational environments. Backgrounds such as Onboard Specialist, Command Service Engineer, Pit Technician, MineStar Application Specialist, or similar mining technology roles are highly valued.

Field Support: Proven experience providing field support and maintaining complex hardware and software systems. Demonstrated success supporting customers on-site and delivering solutions in fast-paced mining or industrial settings.

Problem Solving: Demonstrated ability to independently anticipate, diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve organizational, operational, technical, and process-related challenges, implementing effective solutions that minimize disruption and sustain safe, productive operations.

Communication skills: Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to work autonomously at customer sites while effectively collaborating with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and technical experts. Comfortable translating complex technical concepts into clear, actionable information and building credibility with customers and operational leaders.

Analytical Skills: Strong diagnostic approach for electronic systems and networks; aptitude with logs/telemetry to understand root cause.

Top candidates will also have:

A degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Mining Engineering.
