As a Manufacturing Engineer with the Building Construction Products (BCP) division in Athens, GA you will work independently and on teams to perform duties to maintain and improve manufacturing engineering processes in an operations environment. This position is in the Athens fabrications department and will be heavily involved in the manufacture of structures for Small Track-Type Tractors. The fabrication and machining of these structures is highly automated and involves extensive robotic welding and CNC machining.
What you can look forward to doing in this role:
- Develop capital forecast as it relates to new product introduction, product capacity increases, machine replacement, and process continuous improvement.
- Develop and maintain the processes, tooling, and equipment needed to build small track-type tractors while meeting design and quality requirements.
- Develop and validate process cycle times by conducting time studies.
- Monitor process performance and quality by analyzing dimensional, OEE, process capability, and scrap/rework reports.
- Troubleshoot day-to-day process issues, develop solutions, and monitor improvements.
- Respond to customer issues and lead process improvements.
- Collaborate with the product engineering, operations, and quality groups to improve product quality and manufacturability.
- Perform process improvement activities to reduce material and machining cost.
- Review NPI concepts, prints, and change notices for manufacturability.
- Provide cross shift support as necessary to support production.
A successful candidate in this role will showcase their skills and have:
- Extensive Experience in Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
- A working knowledge in Lean Manufacturing: Knowledge of the philosophy, principles and implementation approaches of lean manufacturing; ability to integrate and implement lean manufacturing philosophy into existing production and management processes
- Extensive Experience in Manufacturing Processes: Knowledge of existing product manufacturing methods, technologies and processes; ability to execute, plan, manage and monitor the entire manufacturing process.
- A working knowledge of Problem Management Process: Knowledge of manufacturing problem management processes, methodologies and techniques; ability to use a disciplined approach to bringing that problem to a successful resolution.
Top Candidates for this position may also have:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, or industrial/manufacturing Technology with 2 years of manufacturing engineering experience; or 5 years of manufacturing engineering experience with no degree.
- Experience creating production tooling using Creo, SolidWorks, or Inventor.
- Print reading experience using Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Experience with fabrications first ops processes (plasma/laser cutting, bending/forming)
- Industrial automation experience with PLC’s, and Fanuc Robotics (able to troubleshoot and repair).
- Job function welding experience (hands on welding experience).
- Experience developing and maintaining process standard work documentation.
- New Product Introduction (NPI) experience as part of NPI implementation team.
- Experience developing, justifying, executing capital projects.
- Experience creating and maintaining routings in ERP systems (SAP Preferred).
- Ability to work independently in Microsoft Office 365 to create spreadsheets, graphs, pivot tables, presentations, apps, and project plans.

Summary Pay Range:
$89,210.00 - $133,810.00Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
