About The Role:

The Application and Installation Engineer serves as a subject matter expert to support product development efforts by providing critical customer input on market requirements and working with the NPI team to optimize the product for the most cost-effective installation for our customers during the NPI process.


The A&I Engineer is a recognized expert in both Caterpillar’s Well Service products as well as customer applications of those products. Travel will be required, including globally, to support specific sales opportunities, deliver dealer training, support industry trade shows, and conduct installation and design audits. The A&I engineer serves as a trusted advisor for Caterpillar dealers and supports their sales efforts.

This role is a key contributor for Caterpillar’s continuing leadership in the Well Service market. Through close support and technical advice this engineer is an integral part of a team focused on expanding market leadership and achieving Caterpillar’s long-term plans.

Additional Information:

  • This position is located in East Peoria, IL or Houston, TX
  • Must be willing to travel up to 25% of the time and have ability to travel globally
  • This position does not offer sponsorship
  • This position requires 5 days onsite

What You Will Do:

  • Providing product application expertise at point of sale, or by delivering various types of product training including applied technology, job efficiency, and safety to customers, company and dealers' sales personnel
  • Developing and maintaining application and installation manuals, technical communications
  • Preparing and conducting product and application training for dealers and end customers
  • Assisting customers and dealers with complex or unique applications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in an accredited mechanical or electrical engineering curriculum
  • 3-5 years of relevant engineering work experience in mechanical or electrical engineering fields
  • 3-5 years of experience with design and/or application of transmissions

Top Candidates Will Also Have:

  • Prior experience in dealer/customer facing positions
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information effectively
  • Transmission and engine systems experience such as working knowledge of cooling, lubrication, controls, and system dynamics
  • Oil and Gas industry experience in a technical support role
  • A commitment to provide prompt, high quality responses to customer requests which may sometimes require extended work days and travel
  • Experience with design and/or application of well service products, including but not limited to well stimulation pumps, cement pumps, nitrogen pumps, coiled tubing pumps, and workover rigs.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Relationship Management: Knowledge of relationship management techniques; ability to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with clients, vendors, and peers.

Summary Pay Range:

$128,470.00 - $192,710.00
