About the Role

  • If you're energized by sitting at the intersection of government, industry, and one of the world's most iconic manufacturing brands, this is a role worth exploring. As our UK Government Affairs Advisor, you'll be the trusted bridge between Caterpillar and the people who write the rules – government officials, policymakers, regulators, and industry leaders across the UK. You'll monitor the political and regulatory landscape, spot risks and opportunities early, and translate them into clear insights for senior business leaders.

What You Will Do

  • Build and manage trusted, long-term relationships with government and regional authorities, industry bodies ,business and trade associations, .
  • Help shape and execute Caterpillar’s UK government affairs strategy creating the public policy environment that supports Caterpillar’s objectives, dealer and customer success .
  • Monitor and analyse regulatory and legislative developments across a wide range of policy matters that could impact Caterpillar,, our customers, and dealers.
  • Gather deep insights into current and emerging policy trends, identifying external challenges and opportunities and converting these into clear, actionable intelligence for business leaders, partnering with subject matter experts to assess impact and develop clear policy positions and messaging..
  • Engage externally Representing Caterpillar’s interests in meetings with government institutions, industry bodies, , and other external stakeholders to promotes a supportive and competitive UK policy environment .
  • Prepare briefings, policy summaries, stakeholder maps, consultation responses, position papers, and executive-level materials – explaining complex policy and technical subjects in clear, audience-tailored language.
  • Build alignment across legal, compliance, communications, sustainability, commercial, and operational functions, guiding internal clients on objectives, deliverables, risks, and dependencies.
  • Identify public policy risks and opportunities, and make evidence-based recommendations to support credible advocacy campaigns backed by data and stakeholder engagement.
  • Maintain accurate records of government engagement in line with applicable laws and company policy, and report progress against objectives to leadership.

What You Will Bring

  • A strong public policy and legislative background, with experience in engaging external stakeholders and crafting policy positions
  • Experience in UK government affairs, public affairs, public policy, regulatory affairs, political engagement, or corporate affairs.
  • Knowledge of UK political institutions, parliamentary processes, government departments, regulators, and policy-development processes.
  • Experience working in or with a multinational, industrial/manufacturing, infrastructure business, trade association, consultancy, or government body – ideally supporting policy in manufacturing, construction, mining, energy, transportation, infrastructure, trade, sustainability, or decarbonisation.
  • Experience in Government, industry association or stakeholder management environment.
  • Experience preparing executive-level briefings and developing stakeholder engagement plans, advocacy strategies, or consultation submissions.
  • Ability to connect policy developments to commercial, operational, reputational, and regulatory implications.
  • Familiarity with political monitoring, stakeholder management, or public affairs intelligence tools.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills to influence and effectively engage with internal and external audiences.
  • Tact, diplomacy and discretion and the ability to work with multiple groups at all levels.

Additional Info

  • The role will require up to 25% travel throughout Caterpillar facilities within the UK.

What Caterpillar Will Do For You:

Job Title: Manager - Government Affairs

Salary: £94,298.00 -£117,873.00 dependent upon experience

  • 25 days annual leave,
  • Up to 31% Bonus
  • Contributory pension scheme - Caterpillar will double the employee's contribution Up to 10%
  • Contributory share scheme - Caterpillar will match 50% of the employee's contribution.
