Job Summary
Join Caterpillar as a Component Design Engineer – Large Engine, you will have the opportunity to concept, develop, and design complex components and systems while strengthening your analytical skills and mastery of engineering concepts within the cylinder head, engine block, and housing team. You will partner with and provide technical guidance to global teams. You will contribute to the development of diesel, natural gas, and alternative fuel reciprocating engines serving a variety of customers across the world. You will contribute to the planning and delivery of projects, continually learn and stay abreast of innovative technology, mentor and coach team members, and broaden your professional network. You will work with engineers, agency employees, manufacturing, global purchasing and suppliers to design / release / validate core engine components in support of current and future programs/projects.
What You Will Do
- Design of core engine components as a part of a global team that include heads, blocks, and housings.
- Partner with manufacturing, purchasing, quality, marketing, and engineering teams to deliver solutions that meet customer and dealer requirements.
- Perform root cause analysis and structured problem solving to address manufacturing and product issues.
- Technical evaluation of product design, reliability, durability, validation cost, product cost and meeting program requirements
- Apply New Product Implementation (NPI) processes to conduct FMEAs (Failure Mode Effects Analysis), formulate validation plans, and complete the validation activities
- Evaluate new products, processes, or systems including supplier change requests
- Complete projects on time and at cost in support of NTI (New Technology Introduction), NPI, CPI (Continuous Product Improvement) and NSI (New Supplier Introduction) programs
- Communicate results to customers, suppliers, team members, and other business units
- Leadership of supplier collaboration and CPPD (Continuous Product & Process Development)
Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, Materials Science, or a related accredited technical curriculum.
- Advanced English-speaking level is required.
Required Skills
Engineering - MFG
- Knowledge of manufacturing readiness, production launch activities, tooling implementation, process improvement, and engineering change implementation.
- Ability to support manufacturing operations, engineering processes, and production efficiency initiatives.
Analytical Thinking
- Knowledge of structured problem-solving methodologies and continuous improvement practices.
- Ability to perform root cause analysis and utilize tools such as Pareto charts, fishbone diagrams, process maps, and corrective action documentation.
- Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and develop effective corrective and preventive actions.
Technical Excellence
- Knowledge of computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software, computer-aided design (CAD) tools, manufacturing equipment, and related production technologies.
- Ability to apply technical expertise to improve manufacturing processes, product quality, and operational efficiency.
Effective Communications
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, Product Engineering, Suppliers, and Operations.
- Ability to communicate technical information, project updates, and problem-resolution plans to stakeholders at multiple levels.
- Ability to build strong working relationships and coordinate activities across functional areas to achieve business objectives
Additional Information:
- This position will be in Cienega de Flores, Nuevo Leon
- This position is five-days a week subject to changes and willingness to work sporadically on weekends.
- Requires working weekends, based on business continuity needs.
- Domestic relocation assistance is available for this position.
- This position may require up to 15% travel. (international and domestic)
