Salary starting from £68,172 depending on experience
Location: Springvale Facility, Belfast

Join Caterpillar's Springvale facility, a world-class manufacturing site producing axles and transmissions for Cat® Articulated Trucks that support customers across mining, construction, and aggregates industries worldwide. Leveraging advanced manufacturing technologies, robotics, and a state-of-the-art paint plant, this is an exciting opportunity to lead a talented engineering team and shape the future of our operations.
As our Manufacturing Engineering Manager, you will play a pivotal role in driving safety, quality, operational excellence, and continuous improvement while delivering strategic initiatives that support business growth and customer success.
What You Will Do
Lead and develop a high-performing team of 20+ engineers, providing direction, coaching, and performance management to support both individual and business success.
Drive a strong safety culture by ensuring safe, compliant, and sustainable manufacturing processes are designed, implemented, and continuously improved.
Oversee the design and optimisation of facility processes across logistics, assembly, test, and paint operations to improve productivity and operational performance.
Champion quality excellence by implementing robust defect prevention strategies, supporting root cause corrective actions (RCCA), error-proofing initiatives, and improving First Test Pass performance.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support facility, customer, business, and community initiatives while ensuring engineering resources are effectively allocated to key priorities.
Lead line balance and capacity planning activities through the S&OP cycle, ensuring operations meet changing demand while achieving cost, efficiency, and throughput targets.
Manage engineering budgets and resources, including a team budget of approximately $2M, operational workforce planning for 200+ employees, and annual capital investment programmes valued between $2M and $5M.
Develop and execute engineering strategies that support continuous improvement, operational excellence, and long-term business objectives.
What You Will Have
Degree Requirement
bachelor’s degree in engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
Technical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
Level Extensive Experience:
Significant experience leading engineering teams within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
Strong engineering and commercial understanding of manufacturing operations, product development, process optimisation, quality systems, continuous improvement, and structured problem-solving methodologies.
Experience applying Lean, Six Sigma, RCA, 8D or similar structured problem-solving tools.
Ability to evaluate technical solutions and drive practical, cost-effective improvements.
Good understanding of health, safety, and environmental requirements within manufacturing.
Managing People: Knowledge of processes involved in managing people; ability to lead successful teams and diligently address issues related to performance and conflicts at the workplace.
Level Extensive Experience:
Demonstrated success in developing and coaching high-performing engineering teams.
Proven ability to lead, influence, and develop engineering professionals in a matrix environment.
Strong stakeholder management, communication, and change leadership skills.
Experienced in performance management, succession planning, and talent development.
Effective communicator, capable of engaging both technical and non-technical audiences across global teams.
Collaborating Globally: Knowledge of effective collaboration techniques and ability to build networks with people from different countries and cultures, think and work with them to bring positive impact and flourishing business results.
Level Working Knowledge:
Experience working in a matrix organization and collaborating across multiple functions including Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, Manufacturing and Product Engineering.
Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.
Level Extensive Experience:
Proven experience managing complex engineering projects from concept through implementation and product launch.
Experience managing budgets, resources, project schedules and engineering priorities.
Planning: Tactical, Strategic: Knowledge of effective planning techniques and ability to contribute to operational (short term), tactical (1-2 years) and strategic (3-5 years) planning in support of the overall business plan.
Level Extensive Experience:
Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
Level Extensive Experience:
Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
Level Extensive Experience:
Ability to communicate complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Top candidates will have:
Experience within heavy manufacturing sectors such as off-highway, automotive, aerospace, or similar.
Lean Six Sigma and/or Project Management certification.
Knowledge of automation, robotics, digital manufacturing, Industry 4.0, and data-driven engineering solutions.
Familiarity with Caterpillar manufacturing systems, NPI processes, and enterprise quality systems.
Experience of leading leaders.
