Role Definition
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Python Developer with expertise in AI agents and Power BI to support advanced analytics, automation, and intelligent decision-support initiatives. This role focuses on developing Python-based solutions, building and deploying AI-driven agents, and delivering high-impact data visualizations that enable data-driven decision-making across the organization.
The Python Developer / AI & Analytics Engineer will design, develop, and maintain Python applications that support AI agent workflows, data processing, and analytics reporting. This role partners closely with engineering, analytics, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable technical solutions.
What you will do
Design, develop, and maintain Python applications for automation, analytics, and system integration
Build and deploy AI agents to support task automation and decision support
Integrate AI solutions with internal tools, APIs, and data sources
Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports
Prepare, transform, and model data for analytics and reporting
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and deliver solutions
Document code, data models, and system designs
Troubleshoot, test, and improve existing systems
Degree Requirement
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Analytics, or related field, or equivalent experience required.
What you must have
Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
Teamwork: Knowledge of the necessity and value of teamwork; experience with; ability to work cooperatively towards shared goals and being supportive of others at all levels.
Technical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
Software Development: Knowledge of software development tools and activities; ability to produce software products or systems in line with product requirements.
Requirements Analysis: Knowledge of tools, methods, and techniques of requirement analysis; ability to elicit, analyze and record required business functionality and non-functionality requirements to ensure the success of a system or software development project.
System Testing: Knowledge of system and software testing; ability to design, plan and execute system testing strategies and tactics to ensure the quality of software at all stages of the system life cycle.
Technical Troubleshooting: Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues on hardware, software, application or operation.
Top candidates will also have
Proficiency in Python programming
Experience with AI-based solutions or intelligent agents
Hands-on experience with Power BI
Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases
Experience building LLM-based or autonomous AI agents
Advanced Power BI skills including DAX and performance optimization
Experience integrating Python data pipelines with BI tools
Exposure to cloud platforms and scalable data architectures
Ability to translate business needs into practical technical solutions

This position will be located onsite 5 days a week in East Peoria, IL (Building KK).

Summary Pay Range:
$89,210.00 - $144,960.00Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
