Job Description:

Your Work Shapes the World at Caterpillar Inc.

When you join Caterpillar, you're joining a global team who cares not just about the work we do – but also about each other. We are the makers, problem solvers, and future world builders who are creating stronger, more sustainable communities. We don't just talk about progress and innovation here – we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Conduct full-dimensional in-depth analysis of leading competitor battery pack solutions in the global passenger vehicle, new energy commercial vehicle, and construction machinery sectors, and deliver systematic technical assessment reports.
  • Precisely capture cutting-edge design concepts, innovative technical routes, and differentiated advantages in the industry. Combined with the company’s whole-vehicle electrification business scenarios, identify technically viable and implementable directions, and output technical feasibility analyses and application recommendations to guide the team’s R&D innovation.
  • Establish a dynamic tracking database for competitor battery technologies, regularly update industry technology trends and benchmark product iteration information, and prepare monthly/quarterly technical insight reports. This helps the team stay ahead of industry developments and avoid technical homogenization.
  • Lead benchmark testing and validation of competitor technologies. Compare and analyze core indicators such as performance, reliability, cost, and adaptability to identify internal technical gaps and optimization directions, driving the iterative upgrade of the company’s battery solutions.
  • Based on competitor technology research findings and the company’s business need, participate in the planning and design of battery pack system solutions for construction machinery/commercial vehicles, and lead key technology selection, architecture definition, and technical route formulation.
  • Provide technical support throughout the entire battery pack development process, including requirements analysis, solution reviews, key technical problem-solving, and validation strategy formulation. Ensure the technical feasibility, cost competitiveness, and scenario adaptability of the solutions.
  • Combine industry benchmark technologies with the company’s product pain points to deliver actionable technical optimization recommendations. Drive the achievement of key goals such as improved thermal management efficiency, optimized structural integration, cost reduction, and enhanced reliability.
  • Develop and accumulate methodologies and case libraries for competitor analysis, technology benchmarking, and solution optimization. Promote internal knowledge sharing and reuse to build the team’s core technical competitiveness.
  • Participate in cross-departmental technical reviews and project communications, providing professional technical assessment opinions. Facilitate collaboration between design, BMS, validation, and process teams to implement innovative technical solutions.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Vehicle Engineering, Electrochemistry, Mechanical Engineering, Power Engineering and Engineering Thermophysics, or related fields.
  • 8+ years of relevant working experience in the power battery industry; candidates with practical experience in battery solution design, type selection evaluation, competitor analysis, or electrification projects for commercial vehicles/construction machinery are preferred.
  • Familiar with battery system technologies for passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, and construction machinery; have full-process experience in battery solution selection, in-depth competitor analysis, or project implementation. Candidates who have led the selection and implementation of battery solutions for at least 3 complete vehicle electrification projects are preferred.
  • Proficient in core technologies of power battery systems; familiar with cell types, performance parameters and applicable scenarios; master mainstream technical routes in battery pack system architecture, thermal management, structural design, and core BMS logic.
  • Possess strong in-depth competitor analysis capabilities, capable of independently completing competitor analysis, technical assessment, cost analysis and value extraction; proficient in using data analysis and benchmarking tools to deliver professional reports.
  • Familiar with domestic and international power battery-related standards (such as ISO 26262, IEC 62660, UN 38.3, etc.) and compliance requirements for construction machinery electrification; understand the battery supply chain system and cost structure.
  • Have solid solution design and optimization capabilities, able to deliver technically feasible and cost-competitive battery system solutions based on competitor research and business needs.
