About IPSD

Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L engines that not only power Caterpillar machines, but also power over 5000 other applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. Job Summary:

Join Caterpillar in Schertz, Texas, as a Maintenance Technician I and be at the forefront of innovation in manufacturing. You'll collaborate with engineers, support operations, and drive process improvement initiatives. What you will do:

  • Respond promptly to service requests and work orders, ensuring minimal disruption to production facilities operations

  • Coordinate activities within designated areas of responsibility in accordance with authorized Company policies, programs, procedures, budgets, laws, and ethical standards

  • Utilize CMMS-generated preventive maintenance worksheets to uphold the machinery and equipment of production facilities, following manufacturer recommendations and best maintenance practices

  • Independently perform assigned preventive maintenance tasks and minor mechanical repairs on production facilities equipment, under limited management

  • Carry out general building maintenance tasks as directed, including lamp replacement, basic construction, overhead doors, and plumbing

  • Under direct supervision, conduct basic electrical preventive maintenance on motors, lights, and electrical panels.

  • Operate and maintain production and material-handling equipment, such as fork trucks, conveyors, robotic equipment, and related tools

  • Ensure timely lubrication of production and material handling equipment according to preventive maintenance schedules

  • Organize lubrication equipment and suggest changes to lubrication schedules, submitting tools/requisitions to the appropriate supervisor

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of maintenance shop areas

  • Seek guidance from more senior technicians for unclear or advanced tasks

  • Uphold a strong mechanical fundamental knowledge and strive to acquire the skills and knowledge of a Level II Maintenance Technician

  • Submit and contribute to the resolution of C.P.S. Continuous Improvement cards

What you will have:

  • 1-2 years of experience documenting work instructions in PLEX and identifying process improvement opportunities

  • 1-2 years of experience validating assembly processes, controlled tooling, and developing standard work

  • 2-3 years of experience interpreting engineering prints and 3D models

  • Minimum 2 years of technical engineering support on the shop floor for diesel engine assembly

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook

  • Ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment and adhere to process governance

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Self-Starter

What would make you a top candidate:

  • Experience in production facilities assembly and material-handling equipment

  • General understanding of Robotics technology and related systems where applicable

  • Understanding of lockout / tag out procedures

  • Experience with basic hand and power tools in an industrial setting

  • Understanding of mechanical theory, including the construction and operation of bearings, hydraulics, pneumatics, and conveyors

  • Mechanical knowledge of basic machines (pulleys, levers, etc.), pneumatics, hydraulics, gears, reducers, bearings, lubrication theory, drive components (sheaves, sprockets, chain belts, take-ups), and equipment alignment.

  • Knowledge of all phases of cutting and welding

  • Six Sigma/Lean experience as either a team member or a Green Belt.

  • Experience leading assembly process improvement projects.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time

  • Ability to perform repetitive operations

  • Ability to lift up to 35lbs.

Additional Information:

  • $22/hour starting payrate

  • Monday - Thursday, 6:00am -4:30pm

  • Overtime as required by the business
