Caterpillar Inc. seeks Lead Software Engineer at its facility located at 540 W Madison St., Chicago, IL 60661.

Job Duties: Lead the design, development, testing and deployment of software systems and/or applications. Functional lines with individuals assigned in new program development and/or maintenance of, Cloud, server and/or distributed computing systems. Oversee and mentor junior developers and handle code reviews. Perform all programming, project management, and development assignments without close supervision; normally assigned the more complex aspects of systems work. Act as team leader for development and support groups. Provide programming and application/technical leadership, guidance, and assistance to other team members. Work directly on complex application/technical problem identification and resolution, including responding to off-shift and weekend support calls. Work independently on complex systems or infrastructure components that maybe used by one or more applications or systems. Drive application development focused around delivering business valuable features. Mentor and assist software engineers, providing technical assistance and direction as needed. Maintain high standards of software quality within the team by establishing good practices and habits. Identify and encourage areas for growth and improvement within the team. Guide the team to develop a structured application/interface code, new program documentation, operations documentation, and user guides in a casual, flexible environment. Communicate with end users and internal customers to help direct development, debugging, and testing of application software for accuracy, integrity, interoperability, and completeness. Lead development of new functionality and applications on cross-functional Agile project teams. Perform integrated testing and customer acceptance testing of components that requires careful planning and execution to ensure timely, quality results. Perform other job duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time to time.

REQS: This position requires a bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field and Six (6) years of experience as a Software Developer, Computer Scientist, or related occupation. Additionally, the applicant must have employment experience with: (1) Python; (2) Developing, deploying, and maintaining software in AWS Cloud; (3) Snowflake data warehouse; (4) Writing SQL queries and stored procedures; and (5) CI-CD Pipeline Development.

Travel: Possibly 4 trips a year, 2 international (India + Slovakia) and 2 domestic (Chicago). Telecommuting: 100% Telecommuting.

Rate of pay: $ 148,949.00 - 159,313.44 per year.
