Your Work Shapes the World at Caterpillar Inc.
When you join Caterpillar, you're joining a global team who cares not just about the work we do – but also about each other. We are the makers, problem solvers, and future world builders who are creating stronger, more sustainable communities. We don't just talk about progress and innovation here – we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.
The Readiness & Adoption Specialist owns the site change that converts a MineStar technology deployment into the business case value the customer bought. Working in the regional Customer Value Enablement team within Technology Value Enablement in APD, the role is accountable for the customer, dealer and Caterpillar readiness required upstream of go-live, for the operating change across every workstream the technology touches, and for adoption holding through stabilization. The role reports to the Manager, Customer Readiness & Adoption.
In this role you will help one site or a few sites move to a new operating state: meeting the readiness gates that must be met before go-live, executing the redesign of defined processes, roles and decision rights with the customer and the dealer, and gathering the evidence that adoption is holding at handover. Working under guidance on a defined workstream, you will work to an agreed readiness plan, escalate deviations, and engage customer supervisors, superintendents and operational teams alongside dealer personnel.
What You Will Do
- Own the site change by mapping every workstream the technology touches across customer, dealer and Caterpillar, and leading the move to the new operating state.
- Work across functions and beyond the boundary of the deployment scope, including customer processes, where the change is required to achieve the business case, taking ownership of the operating change rather than advising on it.
- Redesign processes, roles and decision rights with the customer and the dealer, applying the standards, playbooks and control documents governed by Operational Excellence, and guide their teams through improved processes that maximize the return on their investment in technology and their people.
- Oversee the development of systems of accountability so the new way of working is owned locally and survives handover.
- Define readiness criteria, gates and evidence upstream of go-live, covering customer, dealer and Caterpillar readiness requirements.
- Conduct site assessments and design an effective change enablement plan with each customer, grounded in operational reality and data, and apply lessons learned from previous Caterpillar, customer and dealer deployments.
- Prevent unresolved readiness from being pushed into production; escalate and change the condition rather than absorbing the risk into go-live.
- Drive adoption and stabilization by confirming the new way of working holds, shortening the productivity dip and confirming adoption evidence at handover.
- Build and execute communication strategies, leading workshops, delivering presentations and running coaching sessions that move all organizational levels from acceptance to practice, and administer customer satisfaction assessments to drive continuous improvement.
- Hand over to operations with the plan, capability and measures required to reach the business case.
- Use project management as a tool that serves the change, maintaining plans, dependencies, RAID and status reporting to the standard a complex, multi-party deployment requires, coordinating internal functions, dealer resources and customer teams, and escalating early and with a recommendation.
- Return evidence to the enterprise by feeding validated field learning to Operational Excellence, quantified friction and tooling gaps to Productivity Solutions, and readiness and adoption evidence to Performance & Value Intelligence.
- Contribute to commercial handoffs, contractual scope definition and quoting inputs, bringing operational reality to what is committed, and route business opportunities and referrals arising from the engagement to the regional commercial team.
Scope & Impact
- One site or a few sites with a defined workstream, worked under guidance to an agreed readiness plan, with customer supervisors, superintendents and operational teams and dealer personnel. Extensive site-based travel, up to 50% of working time.
- Executes the redesign of defined processes across customer, dealer and Caterpillar workstreams, including customer processes outside the deployment scope where the change is required to achieve the business case, and escalates deviations from the agreed readiness plan.
- Influence without formal authority: credibility is earned with operations, supervisors and dealer personnel on site, not only through the governance forum.
- Reports to the Manager, Customer Readiness & Adoption in the regional Customer Value Enablement team, and returns evidence to the global Operational Excellence, Productivity Solutions and Performance & Value Intelligence teams.
What skills will you have:
Customer Focus: Aligns customer needs and satisfaction as primary considerations in the readiness plan, reads the value baseline and target operating state, and explains the gap between current performance and the business case.
Service Excellence: Owns adoption through stabilization rather than closing at go-live, shortens the productivity dip, and uses customer satisfaction insight to drive continuous improvement.
Relationship Management: Builds trust and maintains healthy working relationships with customers, dealers and peers, acts as a dealer advocate for Caterpillar best practice, and influences without formal authority on site.
Consulting: Provides technical and business guidance to customer and dealer teams, raises readiness concerns with the customer, and executes the redesign of defined processes instead of only reporting status and flagging risk.
Effective Communications: Contributes to workshops and readiness reviews, delivers presentations, coaching and training that engage operational audiences, and executes communication plans that move supervisors and operational teams from acceptance to practice.
Problem Solving: Identifies why readiness is failing and helps change the condition that causes it, and develops solutions with guidance under ambiguity by stating assumptions, creating options and escalating deviations early.
Technical Excellence: Understands mining fleet technology and the customer's operation well enough to support how the work must adapt, not only how the deployment runs, and works with Workforce Capability so people reach business-case standard rather than minimum competence.
Data Gathering & Analysis: Grounds site assessments and change enablement plans in operational reality and data, and quantifies friction, tooling gaps and readiness and adoption evidence for the global excellence teams.
Top Candidates will also have:
- Degree or equivalent experience, with exposure to mining, technology or consulting.
- Exposure to mine site operations is desirable. Backgrounds such as mine engineer, application specialist or service engineer provide useful operational context for the role.
- Familiarity with mining fleet technology, and MineStar in particular, is an advantage.
- Ability to deliver a defined workstream with guidance, build credibility with supervisors and operational teams, and support change across work group, dealer and customer populations.
- Willingness to work with customers outside the home country and across cultures.
