About The Role:
The Commissioning Engineer provides onsite installation oversight, commissioning, troubleshooting, and performance testing support for Caterpillar G20CM34 large natural gas engines, generator sets, and related auxiliary equipment used in power generation and Oil & Gas applications across North America.
This role serves as Caterpillar's technical representative onsite, ensuring installations meet Caterpillar specifications, safety requirements, and contractual performance obligations. The position requires extensive travel throughout the United States and Canada and involves close collaboration with EPC contractors, customers, OEM partners, and Caterpillar project teams.
Additional Information:
When not deployed to customer sites, this position is expected to work onsite from our Fort Worth or Houston, Texas office.
Travel up to 70-80% within the United States and Canada, with occasional travel to Germany for onboarding and specialized technical training.
This position may require long-duration stays at customer locations, with assignments often spanning several weeks or months and supporting consecutive project deployments.
Salaried exempt position with overtime eligibility.
Ability to obtain and maintain any required customer, site, or U.S. Government security clearances.
Monthly phone allowance included.

What You Will Do:
Safety & Compliance: Lead all onsite activities in accordance with Caterpillar safety standards, EHS requirements, technical specifications, and contractual obligations while promoting a strong safety culture.
Installation Oversight: Provide technical supervision and installation auditing for Caterpillar G20CM34 generator sets, engines, and associated auxiliary equipment to ensure compliance with Caterpillar Application & Installation (A&I) guidelines, drawings, and engineering documentation.
Commissioning & Startup: Plan, coordinate, and execute commissioning, startup, functional testing, and operational readiness activities for generator packages and related mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
Technical Troubleshooting: Perform diagnostics, root cause analysis, calibration, and technical problem resolution for engine, generator, control, and auxiliary systems throughout installation and commissioning phases.
Performance Testing: Support and oversee final performance testing activities, validate contractual performance requirements, analyze operating data, and identify corrective actions when necessary.
Project Coordination & Customer Support: Collaborate with EPC contractors, project managers, OEM partners, and customer representatives to coordinate daily activities, resolve technical issues, and maintain project schedules.
Documentation & Reporting: Prepare installation audits, commissioning reports, punch lists, test documentation, warranty records, and project status updates while ensuring accurate and timely communication of findings and recommendations.
Training & Professional Representation: Provide technical guidance and knowledge sharing to Caterpillar personnel and customers while serving as a professional onsite representative of Caterpillar's values and standards.

Data Gathering & Analysis: Knowledge of data gathering and analysis tools, techniques, and processes; ability to collect and synthesize data from a variety of stakeholders and sources in an objective manner to reach a conclusion, goal, or judgment.
Service Excellence: Knowledge of customer service concepts and techniques; ability to meet or exceed customer needs and expectations and provide excellent service in a direct or indirect manner.
Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
Relationship Management: Knowledge of relationship management techniques; ability to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with clients, vendors, and peers.
Additional Requirements:
Engineering degree, technical diploma, marine engineering certification, or equivalent combination of technical education and relevant field experience.
Hands-on experience servicing medium-speed or high-speed natural gas or diesel reciprocating engines.
Commissioning experience in power generation, Oil & Gas, marine propulsion, or similar industrial environments
Summary Pay Range:
$112,710.00 - $169,060.00Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
