Job Description:

Your Work Shapes the World at Caterpillar Inc.

When you join Caterpillar, you're joining a global team who cares not just about the work we do – but also about each other. We are the makers, problem solvers, and future world builders who are creating stronger, more sustainable communities. We don't just talk about progress and innovation here – we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.

The Integrated Components & Solutions (ICD) division owns Caterpillar’s Wear & Maintenance (W&M) components business — the ground engaging tools, undercarriage, hose & coupling, fluids & filters, and associated hardware that keep the world’s machines running. Our team is building the digital, data, and AI capabilities that make these products easier for customers and dealers to find, buy, use, and get value from.

As Digital Architect, Wear & Maintenance (W&M), you will help bring our W&M digital strategy to life. Partnering closely with the W&M Customer Experience strategy lead, industry business partners, and engineering teams, you will assist with development, execution, and prioritization — turning strategy into projects, requirements, and delivered results. This is a hands-on, technical role as well as a coordinating one: you will help design, build, and validate AI- and data-driven solutions for W&M and connect them into Caterpillar’s digital channels, working across the full W&M digital stack — from the underlying data, to the AI capabilities that use it, to the customer- and dealer-facing channels where it all comes together.

You will play a key role in developing and validating these solutions and integrating them, while also supporting the analytics behind smarter customer and dealer experiences.

Job Summary:

Assist the W&M Customer Experience strategy lead to champion a customer-back mindset in the development of the W&M digital experience; execute and prioritize W&M digital projects; and serve as the key technical contributor and coordinator across the teams and systems that make up the W&M digital ecosystem. You will help design, build, and validate W&M AI tools, using approaches such as Model Context Protocol (MCP), and connect them into the Cat customer-facing ecosystem. Our team owns the AI “tools” that expose W&M offerings and capabilities to Caterpillar’s customer-facing applications such as VisionLink, Cat Central, SIS2, and the Cat AI Assistant.

You will be a key part of the team that owns the W&M domain logic, data quality, and the solutions that live within the AI-powered digital ecosystem. You will serve as an integrator — engaging heavily with engineering, digital, and industry teams to build and support the analytics that power recommendations, remaining-life insights, and easier quoting.

What You Will Do:

  • Develop and validate W&M AI tools (using approaches such as MCP) that make it easy for customers to discover our offerings and capabilities; partner with Cat Digital to get them integrated and implemented.
  • Build and support Customer Experience analytics that improve the customer and dealer experience with the digital ecosystem — examples include: surfacing remaining-life estimates, providing product recommendations, speeding up quoting, and improving service-option visibility.
  • Write and maintain SQL and Python to query data, prototype solutions, and validate that AI- and data-driven capabilities return accurate, trustworthy results.
  • Contribute to and support our core product and component data — helping close gaps, improve accuracy, and ensure high quality, because good data is the foundation of every digital and AI capability.
  • Serve as a W&M domain expert, ensuring solutions reflect our business needs and how customers and dealers work.
  • Communicate requirements, progress, and results clearly to stakeholders across functions and geographies.
  • Serve as project owner and coordinate efforts across many partner teams, managing dependencies and keeping delivery aligned to W&M priorities.

What You Will Have:

  • Requirements Analysis: Extensive knowledge of tools, methods, and techniques for requirements analysis; ability to elicit, analyze, and document required business functionality and non-functional requirements to ensure the success of a system or software development project.
  • Project Management: Extensive knowledge of project management concepts, methods, and tools; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects to ensure delivery against scope, priorities, and business outcomes. Additionally, proven ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, or activities across teams, making effective judgments as to prioritizing and time allocation.
  • Effective Communications: Extensive understanding and demonstrated application of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively receive, interpret and convey ideas, information, and business needs in written & oral communications across many geographies and functional disciplines.
  • Analytical Thinking: Extensive knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems. Ability to utilize data design methodologies, tools and techniques to convert business requirements and logical models into a technical design.
  • Data Management: Knowledge of the processes, tools, and techniques of data management; ability to maintain the quality, integrity, and accessibility of organizational data across its lifecycle and integrate data resources for business processes and functional support. Ability to utilize AI to accelerate data maintenance and management and develop and deploy AI-powered tools as needed.

Considerations for Top Candidates:

  • 6+ years of experience leading complex, multi-functional projects and coordinating cross-functional teams with demonstrated results.
  • Hands-on proficiency, or a demonstrated ability to learn, SQL and Python for querying data, building prototypes, and validating solutions.
  • Exposure to data platforms and pipelines (e.g., Snowflake, SQL, ETL) and comfort turning data into usable, trustworthy results.
  • Interest in and aptitude for modern AI capabilities and agent/tool integration approaches (e.g., MCP, LLM-based tools), with the ability to learn to build, connect, and validate them.
  • Demonstrated ability to help prioritize work and drive execution across multiple partner teams.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills in a collaborative, cross-functional, cross-geography environment.
  • General knowledge of Wear & Maintenance products (ground engaging tools, undercarriage, maintenance parts) is a plus; familiarity with engineering/BOM data or heavy-industry domains is valued.
