Remote Control & Autonomous Network Analyst

Role Definition:

Caterpillar is seeking an experienced IT Analyst to serve as an onsite technical analyst for the Peoria Proving Ground (PPG), one of Caterpillar's largest outdoor machine testing and customer demonstration facilities.

This position requires a highly capable infrastructure professional who can operate independently across networking, wireless communications, systems administration, cybersecurity, vendor coordination, project delivery, and business relationship management. The successful candidate will partner closely with engineering, operations, facility leadership, autonomous machine teams, and enterprise IT organizations to ensure reliable, secure, and scalable technology solutions across a large outdoor proving-ground environment outdoor environment.

Unlike a traditional facility support role, this position combines hands-on technical execution with strategic IT leadership responsibilities supporting machine connectivity, customer demonstrations, autonomous technologies, private wireless infrastructure, facility modernization initiatives, and business-critical operational systems.

What You Will Do:

  • Serve as a trusted IT partner to facility, engineering, and operations leadership.

  • Manage and support wireless, cellular, and network infrastructure, including Wi-Fi, mesh, microwave, and private 5G technologies.

  • Enable connectivity for autonomous and connected-machine technologies.

  • Lead cybersecurity, vulnerability remediation, and compliance efforts.

  • Manage infrastructure projects, vendors, budgets, and stakeholder communications.

  • Drive continuous improvement, reliability, and modernization initiatives.

  • Design, deploy, monitor, and support large-scale wireless network environments.

  • Support Wi-Fi, wireless mesh, microwave, backhaul, cellular, and Private 5G technologies.

  • Maintain connectivity supporting autonomous and remotely operated equipment.

  • Develop network coverage strategies and RF spectrum utilization plans.

  • Utilize spectrum analyzers, site survey tools, drive-test tools, and diagnostic platforms.

  • Manage outdoor network infrastructure including:

  • o Access Points

  • o Towers

  • o Solar-powered network assets

  • o Wireless bridges

  • o Edge communication devices

  • o Industrial networking equipment

  • o Wireless mesh solutions

  • Perform root cause analysis and continuous improvement activities to improve reliability.

What You Have:

  • Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or hands on experience.

  • Experience in infrastructure, networking, systems administration, or technical operations.

  • Experience supporting enterprise networks and wireless technologies.

  • Proven project leadership and cross-functional collaboration skills.

  • Strong communication, customer relationship, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel throughout the proving ground.

Top Candidates Will Have:

  • Experience in manufacturing, engineering, testing, or industrial environments.

  • Knowledge of Cisco networking, wireless mesh, LTE/5G, microwave communications, and RF technologies.

  • Experience with autonomous/connected-machine technologies and OT environments.

  • Familiarity with cybersecurity, vulnerability management, scripting, and automation tools (PowerShell/Python).

Skills Descriptors:

  • Technical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.

  • Technology Advising: Knowledge of effective advisory methods and ability to provide valued information and advice to clients regarding products, technologies, services, and solutions for a specific technology domain.

  • Systems Software Infrastructure: Knowledge of computer architecture and system software interaction; ability to design and build fundamental architecture of operating systems, database management systems, communications protocols, compilers, and other development tools.

  • Technical Troubleshooting: Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools, and techniques; ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues on hardware, software, application, or operation.

  • Hardware Infrastructure: Knowledge of computer architecture and systems programming; ability to design, build and integrate IT hardware into multi-platforms for the organization.​

Summary Pay Range:

$97,530.00 - $158,480.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
