Job Summary:
Join Caterpillar as a AWS Network Engineer and help build the secure, scalable cloud foundation that powers our global digital ecosystem.
In this role, you will lead the design, implementation, automation, and optimization of enterprise-scale AWS networking solutions across multi-account and multi-region environments. You will partner closely with cloud architects, cybersecurity teams, platform engineers, and application teams to deliver highly available networking services supporting both cloud-native and hybrid workloads. This position plays a critical role in enabling secure connectivity, infrastructure modernization, and operational excellence across Caterpillar's global technology landscape.
What you will do:
Design and implement AWS network architectures including VPCs, subnets, route tables, NAT Gateways, Internet Gateways, and multi-AZ deployments.
Architect and manage advanced routing solutions utilizing AWS Transit Gateway (TGW) to support multi-account, hub-and-spoke cloud networking strategies.
Design and support hybrid cloud connectivity solutions using AWS Direct Connect, Site-to-Site VPN, Client VPN, and BGP routing integrations with on-premises environments.
Develop and maintain enterprise DNS and traffic-routing strategies using Amazon Route 53, including routing policies, health checks, and failover configurations.
Design and implement secure connectivity patterns through VPC Endpoints and AWS PrivateLink.
Configure and maintain network security controls including Security Groups, Network ACLs, AWS Network Firewall, AWS WAF, and AWS Shield.
Automate cloud networking deployments and operational processes using IaC (CloudFormation) and scripting languages such as Python and Bash.
Troubleshoot complex networking issues involving routing, connectivity, DNS resolution, latency, and hybrid-cloud communication paths.
Partner with cloud architects, cybersecurity teams, and application stakeholders to ensure infrastructure scalability, reliability, performance, and security.
Monitor network performance and availability while identifying opportunities for optimization and cost efficiencies.
Create and maintain network architecture documentation, operational procedures, technical standards, and support runbooks.
What you will have:
Technical Excellence: Knowledge of cloud infrastructure technologies and networking architectures; ability to design and deliver solutions that address complex technical challenges while supporting long-term business objectives.
Technical Troubleshooting: Ability to anticipate, diagnose, and resolve complex infrastructure, connectivity, routing, security, and performance-related issues.
Technology Advising: Ability to evaluate technology solutions, provide guidance to stakeholders, and promote best practices across cloud networking environments.
Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Ability to analyze technical and business requirements, identify risks, and develop effective cloud networking strategies.
Basic requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Information Technology, Engineering.
Pre-Advanced English.
Strong experience designing and supporting enterprise cloud networking solutions in AWS.
Advanced understanding of: TCP/IP; DNS; CIDR; IPv4 / IPv6; Enterprise routing concepts; BGP routing protocols.
Hands-on experience with: Amazon VPC; AWS Transit Gateway; Route 53; VPC Endpoints; AWS PrivateLink; Application Load Balancers (ALB); Network Load Balancers (NLB).
Experience designing and supporting hybrid cloud networking environments utilizing AWS Direct Connect and VPN technologies.
Experience implementing cloud network security controls and advanced network segmentation strategies.
Demonstrated experience with IaC (CloudFormation) and scripting using Python, Bash, or similar technologies.
Experience supporting CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure automation initiatives.
Strong troubleshooting skills involving routing paths, DNS failures, connectivity issues, latency concerns, and network performance optimization.
Top candidates will also have:
AWS Certified Advanced Networking – Specialty certification.
AWS Solutions Architect Professional certification.
AWS DevOps Engineer Professional certification.
Experience supporting large-scale multi-account and multi-region AWS environments.
Experience working within enterprise cybersecurity and cloud governance frameworks.
Experience designing highly available and resilient cloud networking environments.
Exposure to Terraform or additional Infrastructure-as-Code platforms.
Experience supporting global organizations with complex hybrid-cloud architectures.
Knowledge of ITIL practices and operational support processes.
Experience working within Agile and DevOps environments.
Note: This position requires the candidate to work on-site five days a week.
