Role Definition:

At Caterpillar, we're building the next generation of hybrid power systems that help customers integrate generators, battery energy storage, renewable energy sources, and advanced controls into reliable, intelligent energy solutions.


We're looking for a Technical Lead - Hybrid Power & Energy Storage Systems to provide technical leadership for the design, integration, and deployment of advanced hybrid energy solutions. This is an opportunity to influence product strategy, system architecture, and technology direction while collaborating with engineering teams around the world.


What You Will Do:

  • Define system architectures and technical roadmaps for future products.
  • Lead the technical development of hybrid power and energy storage systems.
  • Drive integration of generators, battery energy storage systems (BESS), inverters, microgrids, and site-level control systems.
  • Guide requirements development, design reviews, validation activities, and technical decision-making.
  • Partner with global engineering teams to deliver innovative solutions that meet customer needs and business goals.
  • Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership across multiple projects and teams.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and identify opportunities to advance Caterpillar's hybrid energy portfolio.
  • Support compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and certification efforts.

What You Will Have:


Degree Requirement

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.

Technical Requirements

  • Deep expertise in one or more of the following:
    • Hybrid Energy Systems
    • Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
    • Microgrids
    • Energy Management Systems (EMS)
    • Distributed Energy Resources (DER)
    • Power Electronics
    • System Architecture
  • Experience leading complex technical projects and influencing engineering direction.
  • Strong understanding of electrical power systems, controls, inverter technologies, or power distribution systems.
  • Familiarity with MATLAB, Simulink, PowerFactory, PSCAD, or similar engineering tools.

  • Incumbents must have demonstrated excellent analytical skills and have an extensive understanding of complex engineering concepts and applications.

Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Extensive knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques.

  • Differentiates assumptions, perspectives, and historical frameworks.
  • Utilizes effective decision-making approaches such as consultative, command, or consensus.
  • Ensures that assumptions and received wisdom are objectively analyzed in decisions.

Project Management: Extensive knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics.


Product Development Life Cycle: Extensive knowledge of the methodology and associated phases, activities and deliverables of product development life cycle in manufacturing organizations; ability to bring new or enhanced products to the marketplace.

  • Oversee all phases, activities and deliverables of the product development methodology.

Product Testing: Extensive knowledge of product testing approaches, techniques and tools.

  • Coordinates execution of test plans, including resources, strategy, schedules, processes and tools.

Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Extensive knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques.

  • Applies specific techniques for isolating a problem and defining resolution approach.

Additional Information:

  • This position requires the candidate to work onsite five days a week.
  • The primary work location is Mossville, IL or Griffin, GA

Summary Pay Range:

$128,470.00 - $192,710.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
