Federation Product Owner

Role Definition:

The role of the Federation Product Owner within the Identity Access Management (IAM) organization of Caterpillar Cybersecurity is responsible for setting direction and overall management of the federations within Entra ID. This includes the management of the Ping Federation and Ping Access service offerings within IAM. The Federation Product Owner will provide overall management and direction for support and key projects within the identified services. This role will also interact with application teams and technical resources around the enterprise to advise and direct them to the best fit for their federation needs. The position requires a strong ability to communicate the business value of Federation projects with business users and customers. Excellent interpersonal skills are required to manage sensitive issues and develop skills within the team.

What You Will Do:

  • Provide leadership of several Federation Service practitioners to set priorities and drive execution.

  • Provide clear strategic direction for the Entra Federation Services, including the long-term strategy for App registration lifecycle management (LCM).

  • Develop Entra skills within the team.

  • Act as sponsor and engage in chartering and execution of Federation related projects.

  • Champion Federation key projects with Caterpillar leaders.

  • Facilitate the creation / update of Federation roadmaps and strategies.

  • Leverage understanding of customer experience (CX) skills in the evaluation of Entra Federation and Ping Access services.  

  • Act as a trusted advisor to the enterprise on Federation Services.

What You Have:

  • Accredited, four-year Information Technology degree, a closely related technical degree, or equivalent experience.

  • Strong writing, communication, and presentation skills; ability to deliver messages to technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Plays an active or leading role in recording and storing requirement documents in various forms.

  • Ensures the successful completion of all major activities, tasks and deliverables pertaining to the requirement analysis stage.

  • Supervises the advanced use of requirements analysis tools and services, including prototyping and use cases.

  • Produces detailed functional and information requirements models and documentation.

  • Trains others on requirements walkthroughs and quality reviews.

  • Utilizes automated diagramming tools to ensure traceability of requirements.

Systems Software Infrastructure: Knowledge of computer architecture and system software interaction; ability to design and build a fundamental architecture of operating systems, database management systems, communications protocols, compilers and other development tools.

Level Extensive Experience:

  • Designs and implements software infrastructure and core technologies.

  • Develops software architecture and data management policies and procedures.

  • Resolves issues regarding the implementation of heterogeneous open systems.

  • Evaluates the management of software configuration facilities and practices.

  • Coaches on the essential elements of software architecture, platforms and products.

  • Facilitates internal and external cooperative and distributed alignment and processing of systems software infrastructure.

Technical Troubleshooting: Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues on hardware, software, application or operation.

Level Extensive Experience:

  • Emphasizes the business impact of failure and the criticality and timing of needed resolution so that problems can be avoided in the future.

  • Creates trouble reports for all issues found and reviews solutions for completeness and correctness.

  • Directs the resolution of communications problems in multi-vendor environments.

  • Resolves a variety of hardware, software, and communications malfunctions.

  • Coaches others on advanced diagnostic techniques and tools for unusual or performance-related problems.

  • Facilitates the distribution of releases reports and correction packages to departments or clients.

Technical Writing/Documentation: Knowledge of technical writing; ability to write technical documents such as manuals, reports, guidelines or documents on standards, processes and applications.

Level Expert:

  • Directs the design and production of a full spectrum of written technical materials.

  • Provides insight into multiple documentation tools, techniques and delivery mechanisms.

  • Plays a leadership role in supporting the analysis, design and development of a documentation solution.

  • Leads the design and development of high-impact, wide-audience documentation systems.

  • Predicts industry and marketplace trends regarding documentation tools and techniques.

  • Monitors the effectiveness of existing tools and techniques and implements improvements.

Education/Experience: Degree or equivalent experience desired

Additional Info :

  • The primary location for this position is Peoria, IL or Dallas, TX or Nashville, TN.

  • This role requires 3 days onsite.

  • Domestic relocation is NOT available.
