EHS Environmental Engineer 
Mapleton, IL 


The Mapleton Foundry is one of the largest in the United States and home to the largest core making machine in the world! Working at the foundry is hard work that demands focus and safety, quality, and commitment to helping our customers build a better world.

We are looking for an EHS Environmental Engineer to serve as an individual contributor on the Environmental, Health and/or Safety (EHS) projects and assignments that support and enhance Caterpillar facility performance and compliance. 


What you will do:  

  • Identify common environmental risks inherent in Mapleton Foundry operations and establish guidelines, make and implement specific plans and procedures to mitigate the identified risks 
  • Develop environmental related training material and ensure EHS training is completed to comply with regulatory requirements or in support of facility, division, or enterprise objectives. 
  • Audit environmental programs for compliance with company standards, government regulations, and adequacy relative to local conditions. Identify gaps and develop plans to improve these programs
  • Monitor periodic performance reports for trends and conditions and alerts line management to problems.  
  • Perform sampling, data collection and processing to support compliance
  • Support environmental reporting, such as Tier II and TRI reporting
  • Work with operations and other functional groups for integrated compliance solutions
  • Identify sustainability opportunities, develop and implement sustainability solutions 

Top Candidates Will Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sciences, an equivalent degree, or equivalent professional experience.  
  • Experience with environmental compliance programs, such as SWPPP, SPCC, RCRA programs, NPDES permit, Title V permit, or air construction permit
  • Experience with sustainability projects

Knowledge of sustainability strategy; ability to integrate sustainability into the overall business strategy of the organization to build a sustainable business model.

Knowledge of processes, tools and techniques for assessing and controlling an organization's exposure to risks of various kinds; ability to apply knowledge of risk management appropriately to diverse situations.

Collaborating: Working Knowledge: 
Knowledge of collaborative techniques; ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner. 

Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Extensive Experience:
Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment. 

Interpersonal Relationships: Working Knowledge: 
Knowledge of the techniques and the ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.
Overcoming Resistance to Change: Working Knowledge:
Understanding and insight into the futility of refusing to accept the inevitable and ability to overcome resistance and adapt to a complex and changing environment.
Problem Solving: Working Knowledge:
Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Policy Compliance: Extensive Experience: 
Knowledge of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) policies; ability to implement EHS policies to ensure that provided products and services are safe for people and the environment and in compliance with legal requirements and standards.

Summary Pay Range:

$95,640.00 - $143,520.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
