Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L engines that not only power Caterpillar machines, but also power over 5000 other applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. Job Summary: 

We're seeking a passionate individual to join our team as a Manufacturing Specialist in San Antonio, TX. In this role, you'll play a pivotal part in ensuring the seamless production of Caterpillar Diesel Engines, providing invaluable technical expertise. In this role, you'll collaborate closely with our Operations Supervisor, tackling dynamic challenges and contributing directly to meeting both customer and company objectives. What you will do:

  • Set up, adjust, troubleshoot, and operate a variety of machine tooling, including specialized and advanced variation tools, to conduct precision machining operations

  • Disburse all parts and maintain machining processes to specifications

  • Manage the dispositioning of tools sent out for regrind/repair and those received

  • Handle the delivery and pickup of machine tools using transfer carts

  • Perform process testing to ensure quality control

  • Set up, troubleshoot, and operate basic and specialized machine tools

  • Maintain accurate records related to inventory and track items through the WX system

  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and schematic diagrams

  • Maintain records related to inventory, quality, and defective parts

  • Assist with resolution of Continuous Improvement cards and provide process information to supervisors

  • Ensure a safe and clean workstation environment

  • Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor

What you will have:

  • Previous experience in manufacturing and machining processes

  • Familiarity with mechanical products and components

  • Experience with scanners for parts management

  • Proficiency in using engine prints and schematics for quality verification

  • Basic understanding of technical requirements such as tolerance and fit

  • Proficiency in working with hand tools

What would make you a top candidate: 

  • Proficiency in reading engineering drawings, schematic diagrams, and blueprints, with training in GD&T

  • Experience with milling machine tooling

  • Experience setting up and troubleshooting Heller and Toyoda machining cells

  • High School Diploma or GED Degree

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time

  • Ability to perform repetitive operations

  • Ability to lift at least 20lbs. and up to 80lbs.

Additional Information:

  • $19/hour starting payrate   plus a shift premium

  • Candidate will initially begin on 2nd shift, with the opportunity to transition to 3rd shift based on business needs.

  • 2nd shift schedule runs from Sunday to Thursday, 6:00 pm to 2:30 am, with potential overtime on Fridays. Upon transition to 3rd shift, the hours will adjust to 10:00 pm to 2:30am.

  • Must be comfortable working both shifts

  • Overtime as business needs

  • Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
