Job Title: Engineering Manager

Salary: £60 - £65k

Location : Peterborough

Job Summary:

As a Design Change Engineering Manager in the Engineering Services Team, the role is focused on the operational ownership and responsibility of the Global Engineering Change (GEC) process, ensuring it delivers on commitments with a focus on quality and on-time delivery to our global Manufacturing facilities.

The incumbent will lead the team of 9 direct reports and will own the planning, coordination, and implementation of design changes across IPSD Medium Engines. This position offers high visibility across many business functions and operational Stakeholders and as such you will build a significant global network of contacts and the opportunity to learn how connected functional areas operate in greater detail to produce the output that supports our processes

What You Will Do:

  • Report to the Engineering Services Manager, this role is accountable for the daily global operation and performance of the Global Engineering Change (GEC) process from Change Request (CR) to Change Implementation (CI)
  • Take ownership of Global Engineering Change (GEC) Governance, ensuring KPI’s and process performance are reported to key Stakeholders
  • Engage with Process Partners and business Stakeholders on a regular basis to ensure operational challenges and roadblocks are mitigated
  • Lead strategic development of the Global Engineering Change (GEC) process by continually soliciting feedback from Process Partners to drive a focus on continuous improvement
  • Sponsor and coach continuous improvement projects that deliver incremental value
  • Ensure team growth objectives are defined to support the development of team members
  • Champion departmental lean objectives

Technical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
Level Extensive Experience:
• Mentors others to enhance their technical competence and its application to achieve more effective technical solutions.
• Coaches others in promoting, defining, analyzing, and providing superior technical solutions to business problems.
• Provides effective solutions to moderate technical challenges through strong technical competence, effectively examining implications of events and issues.

Managing People: Knowledge of processes involved in managing people; ability to lead successful teams, and diligently address issues related to performance and conflicts at the workplace.
Level Working Knowledge:
• Assesses the amount of time and resources needed to accomplish a task; delegates work accordingly.
• Reviews progress and performance of employees; addresses bottlenecks or concerns impending employee growth.
• Works with employees to set and define performance standards and career development goals; supports in achieving them.

Top candidates may also have:

  • Understanding of business operations in Product Lifecycle Management, Purchasing & Order to Delivery
  • Global Engineering Change (GEC) process knowledge
  • Previous strategy development and governance experience
  • Prior leadership experience gained through previous supervision and/or coaching of cross functional groups
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to influence teams and overcome roadblocks
  • Previous Six Sigma experience

Candidates may have gained the following skills and experience through previous roles:

  • Product knowledge
  • NPI process knowledge
  • Engineering systems knowledge, such as Teamcenter
