Your Work Shapes the World at Caterpillar Inc.
When you join Caterpillar, you're joining a global team who cares not just about the work we do – but also about each other. We are the makers, problem solvers, and future world builders who are creating stronger, more sustainable communities. We don't just talk about progress and innovation here – we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.
As a Pre-field Trainee – Dealer Service Operations (Product Support), you will join a structured 18–24 month Field Rep development program designed to accelerate your career at Caterpillar.
Through a combination of hands-on rotations, technical training, and global exposure, you will build the skills needed for a future field-based role supporting dealers and customers. You will learn directly from senior leaders and subject matter experts while gaining practical experience across the business.
What Product Support Means at Caterpillar
At Caterpillar, Product Support focuses on helping dealers optimize parts and service operations to improve customer outcomes, equipment uptime, and business performance.
While a technical background is beneficial, this is not a product design or engineering development role. The focus of this position is on working with Cat dealers to improve parts and service operations, influence business outcomes, and deliver exceptional customer support throughout the equipment lifecycle.

A 12-week intensive onboarding and training experience
International exposure, including travel across Asia and Europe on learning trips
Rotational assignments across key business functions
Mentorship from experienced leaders and technical experts
What you will learn in the program:
Build foundational knowledge of Caterpillar's products, services, customers, and dealer network
Develop technical, commercial, and professional skills
Collaborate with cross-functional teams across product development, dealer management, marketing, and sales
Gain exposure to process improvement and operational excellence practice
Rotational Assignments through various Caterpillar Divisions to (i) develop industry and product application knowledge, (ii) build a strong understanding of the Cat dealer network and (iii) strengthen your capabilities for future roles within the organisation.
Your Future Role
Upon successful completion of the program, you will have the opportunity to move into a field role, where you will:
Partner with Cat dealers to improve parts and service operations
Build dealer capability and drive process improvement initiatives
Execute product support and aftermarket strategies that improve customer outcomes
Support customers by helping dealers solve operational and business challenges
Use data and insights to identify opportunities and deliver sustainable solutions
Act as a trusted advisor to dealers, helping them improve performance and deliver exceptional customer experiences
We’re looking for candidates who:
Hold a degree in Engineering, Business, Supply Chain, Project Management, Data Analytics, Operations Management, or a related discipline
Have experience managing or supporting projects, process improvement initiatives, or operational improvements
Are strong communicators and relationship builders
Enjoy solving problems and working with data
Demonstrate a growth mindset and adaptability
Are open to travel (up to 30%) and relocation within Australia
Must have full working rights
You may also have up to 3 years of experience in engineering, project management, operations, or change management.
Additional Information
Whilst applicants will be considered from across Australia, you may be required to relocate upon completion of your developmental period. Company support is provided with relocation.
