Your Work Shapes the World at Caterpillar Inc.
When you join Caterpillar, you're joining a global team who cares not just about the work we do – but also about each other. We are the makers, problem solvers, and future world builders who are creating stronger, more sustainable communities. We don't just talk about progress and innovation here – we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.
Caterpillar products generate and process large volumes of real-time data from sensors, onboard models, and control systems, enabling advanced operational insights across mining environments. As part of Caterpillar’s digital strategy, the MineStar suite delivers an integrated platform that connects machines and enterprise systems to enable real-time monitoring, control, and optimisation of mining operations.
To support this vision, we are evolving our software delivery model through a DevSecOps approach, embedding security, automation, and operational excellence across the software lifecycle.
We are seeking an experienced Product Owner – DevSecOps to lead prioritisation and delivery within a DevSecOps enablement team. This role focuses on enabling engineering teams to deliver software faster, more securely, and with greater reliability through platform capabilities, standardised pipelines, and integrated security practices.
Role Overview
The Product Owner – DevSecOps is responsible for defining and prioritising the backlog for DevSecOps capabilities, including CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, security controls, and developer enablement services.
The role acts as the bridge between engineering, security, platform, and business stakeholders, ensuring that DevSecOps investments deliver measurable improvements in delivery velocity, quality, security, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
DevSecOps Backlog Ownership
Own and prioritise the DevSecOps backlog, aligning with platform strategy, security requirements, and engineering needs.
Define and sequence features such as CI/CD pipelines, IaC capabilities, environment provisioning, and security tooling.
Program Increment (PI) Planning & Delivery
Lead backlog refinement and planning activities for Program Increments, ensuring clear, prioritised, and outcome-driven deliverables.
Ensure features deliver measurable improvements in automation, standardisation, and developer experience.
Security & Compliance Integration
Drive the inclusion of security controls (e.g., scanning, secrets management, policy-as-code) into delivery pipelines.
Ensure alignment with enterprise compliance frameworks and audit requirements (e.g., ISO, governance standards).
Platform & Enablement Focus
Prioritise initiatives that enable self-service, reusable “golden paths,” and standardised DevSecOps patterns across teams.
Balance platform standardisation with product team flexibility and adoption.
Technical Alignment & Architecture Enablement
Collaborate with architects and technical leads to support architectural runway, including infrastructure modernisation, pipeline standardisation, and reduction of technical debt.
Ensure adequate backlog allocation for platform capabilities and engineering enablement.
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
Act as the primary interface between DevSecOps teams and stakeholders across engineering, security, and leadership.
Provide clear visibility into priorities, progress, risks, and outcomes.
Value Delivery & Continuous Improvement
Define success metrics (e.g., deployment frequency, lead time, security posture, incident reduction).
Continuously refine priorities based on feedback, adoption, and performance data.
Experience Required
4+ years’ experience as a Product Owner, Business Analyst, or similar role in software delivery environments.
Experience working with DevOps or DevSecOps practices, including CI/CD, cloud platforms, or infrastructure automation.
Proven experience working within Agile frameworks (SAFe, Scrum, etc.).
Experience delivering platform or enablement capabilities (preferred).
Skills Required
Strong understanding of DevSecOps principles, including automation, security integration, and continuous delivery.
Ability to translate technical platform capabilities into business value outcomes.
Strong stakeholder management across engineering, security, and leadership domains.
Analytical mindset with the ability to prioritise high-impact initiatives.
Strong communication and influencing skills in complex, cross-functional environments.
Familiarity with modern engineering ecosystems (e.g., Azure DevOps, GitHub, cloud platforms, IaC tools).
