About E&ES:

Caterpillar’s Electrification & Energy Solutions (E&ES) Division will focus on delivering advanced electrified power train, zero-emissions products/technologies, and the solutions and services associated with these technologies. Focus areas include batteries, fuel cells, motors, inverters, micro grid controllers, charging, energy storage systems, lifecycle solutions/services and integration of components for ePowertrain solutions across industries.

Job Summary:

Caterpillar’s Electrification + Energy Solutions (E+ES) Division is looking for an Engineering Manager responsible for battery system design and integration into multiple customer applications such as machines, rail and marine. As the manager, you will serve as both a technical and people leader, fostering a high-performing, collaborative culture aligned with safety, innovation, and operational excellence.

What You Will Do:

  • Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team to develop collaborative relationships among themselves, with customers, suppliers, other cross functional groups, and internal customers to ensure goals are achieved

  • Guide the evolution of technical design, technical project planning, detail design, and development testing

  • Serve as design control owner for battery system and integration design. This includes leading battery rack and pack design engineers with responsibility for battery system top levels, mounting structures, cooling systems, and high voltage battery connections

  • Own the planning, coordination, and execution of test plans for batteries systems and components within New Technology Introduction (NTI) and New Product Introduction (NPI) Programs

  • Maintain collaboration with corporate and E+ES compliance teams for the evaluation and certification of battery systems within the appropriate regulatory bodies (IEC, UL, Marine Certification with DNV, RINA, LR, ABS, USCG)

  • Support development of battery system cost estimates, program proposals and budgets, and project timelines management

  • Champion a proactive safety culture focused on risk incident prevention and continuous improvement. Conduct or oversee safety reviews, hazard assessments, and approve live work procedure requests

  • Work with immediate work group or project team, division/business unit, suppliers, internal and external customers, and the market, typically impacting one or more product(s), process(es), or factory(ies) to make decisions


What You Will Have:

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering

  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Extensive experience and knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.

  • Technical Excellence: Extensive experience and knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.

  • Communicating for Impact: Working knowledge of the concepts, tools and techniques for effective listening and communicating; ability to apply these theories to receive, transmit and accurately interpret information and ideas to influence others in various situations.

  • Influencing Through Expertise: Extensive experience and knowledge of effective influencing tactics and strategies; ability to use these to deepen own expertise and impact or challenge decisions within and outside own organization.

What Will Set You Apart:

  • Experience: Previous battery systems experience

  • Customer/Market Focus: Extensive experience and understanding of the importance of remaining aware of shifting market priorities and ability to respond to internal and external customer needs in a manner that consistently adds value.

  • Managing People: Extensive experience and knowledge of processes involved in managing people; ability to lead successful teams, and diligently address issues related to performance and conflicts at the workplace.

  • Collaborating Globally: Extensive experience and knowledge of effective collaboration techniques and ability to build networks with people from different countries and cultures, think and work with them to bring positive impact and flourishing business results.

  • Planning: Tactical, Strategic: Extensive experience and knowledge of effective planning techniques and ability to contribute to operational (short term), tactical (1-2 years) and strategic (3-5 years) planning in support of the overall business plan.

Additional Information:

  • This position is located in Mossville, IL and requires 5-day a week on-site availability

  • Domestic relocation is available for this role

  • Travel is expected 20% or less

Summary Pay Range:

$159,120.00 - $238,680.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.

This position requires working onsite five days a week.
