We have an exciting role as an Accountant - Employee Benefits Accounting, within our Technical Accounting group. 

In this role, you will provide technical expertise on employee compensation and benefits primarily related to Caterpillar’s U.S. employees. You will perform complex accounting work and research that will support our U.S. GAAP accounting related to employee compensation and benefits expense, and other regulatory reporting. 

What You Will Do:

  • Preparation and monitoring of U.S. labor related benefits accruals that are charged to U.S. business units.  This includes setting rates for business plan and actuals and monitoring these actual results versus estimated.  This position will become the labor related expert in Workday focusing on continual process improvement and enhancements to existing accrual processes. 
  • Preparation of consolidated accountable and legal entity financial results, including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and support external quarterly and annual reporting related to U.S. compensation and benefits expense. 
  • Leads the preparation and completion of the financial statements related to Caterpillar’s U.S. Health and Welfare plans and is the main contact for external auditors.  This includes separately filed financial statements with external audit opinions that required filing with certain government entities. 
  • Leads or participates in projects related to U.S. compensation and benefits partnering with Total Rewards, Treasury, business units and external third-party vendors.  .
  • Create and utilize automated tools to drive efficiency to support scale of the business functions and accurate financial results.

What Skills & Experiences You Will Need:

  • Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in – Accounting or Finance and 3+ years of relevant experience
  • Accuracy and Attention to Detail: Understanding the necessity and value of accuracy; ability to complete tasks with high levels of precision.
  • Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
  • Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
  • Managing Multiple Priorities : Knowledge of effective self-management practices; ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities, making effective judgments as to prioritizing and time allocation.
  • Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Accounting: Knowledge of accounting methods, processes, and tools; ability to maintain and prepare financial statements and reports using accounting methods and processes.
  • Financial Analysis: Knowledge of tools and approaches of financial analysis; ability to read, interpret and draw accurate conclusions from financial and numerical material.
  • Financial Reporting: Knowledge of processes, methods, and tools of financial reporting; ability to create and maintain accurate and thorough financial reports.
  • Continuous Improvement Mindset: constantly observing your environment, assessing the effects of changes, and determining how to adapt to them.

Top Candidates Will Also Have: 

  • Employee Benefits accounting experience
  • PowerBI and Excel experience

Additional Info :

  • This position will be located in Peoria, IL
  • This role is a full time, Hybrid position and currently requires 3 days a week in office
  • Domestic relocation assistance is available for those who qualify
  • Sponsorship is not available
  • International and Domestic travel up to 5%
