We are building the next generation of electrified products that help our customers solve their toughest challenges and create a more sustainable future.
Job Summary
We are looking for a Senior Design Engineer to join the UK Rapid Electrification Development (RED) team within Electrification & Energy Solutions. The RED team designs, builds, validates and deploys technical and commercial demonstrator machines, developing innovative electrified machine solutions that address real customer challenges.
This is a highly dynamic role operating within empowered taskforce “team of teams” environments, where engineers work closely with customers, customer-facing teams, build teams and test facilities to rapidly develop and mature new machine electrification solutions. The successful candidate will combine strong technical capability with demonstrated technical leadership, helping drive concept and detailed design activities from initial idea through prototype validation and deployment.
Additional Info
This role offers exposure to a wide range of machine applications, technologies and customer challenges. Engineers are expected to work closely with prototype hardware, build activities and validation programmes in a fast-paced development environment. Some travel may be required to support customer engagements, machine evaluations and project activities.
What You Will Do
Lead concept and detailed design activities for electrified machine systems and subsystems, supporting projects from early concept development through prototype build and validation.
Provide technical leadership within cross-functional task-force teams, driving robust engineering decisions and effective problem resolution.
Work directly with customers and customer-facing teams to understand requirements, solve application challenges and deliver practical engineering solutions.
Collaborate closely with build, validation and system integration teams to rapidly develop, test and improve demonstrator machines.
Contribute to mechanical and/or electrical system design activities, including system integration, packaging, low-voltage and high-voltage applications where appropriate.
Collaborate with compliance, regulatory and certification teams to ensure designs meet applicable market and product requirements, supporting successful machine deployment in target regions.
Lead the creation and updating of engineering project plans, providing regular updates to stakeholders and communicating issues or roadblocks.
Develop and communicate technical reports, design rationale, engineering recommendations and project updates to support decision-making across project, customer and leadership teams.
Lead technical investigations, root cause analysis and design reviews to improve machine performance, quality, durability and customer value.
Support and mentor engineers across project teams, helping develop technical capability and engineering excellence.
What You Have - Skills
Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
Proven track record delivering mechanical and/or electrical design solutions from concept through validation within a product development environment.
Demonstrated technical leadership experience, including influencing technical direction, driving decisions and supporting multidisciplinary teams.
Strong analytical and structured problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Experience using modern engineering design tools such as Creo or equivalent CAD systems, with a solid understanding of engineering drawings and product development processes.
Top Candidates Will Also Have - Knowledge of
Experience of electrified machine systems, ePowertrain technologies, high-voltage and low-voltage architectures or system integration.
Exposure to prototype, demonstrator or pre-production product development environments.
Experience working closely with customers, suppliers, build teams and validation teams.
Knowledge of Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), and related engineering processes.
Experience developing products for regulated markets, including collaboration with compliance and certification teams to achieve market-specific approvals.
