A strategic liaison between HR and the business who implements HR strategies aligned with business objectives, provides guidance on HR policies and practices, and fosters a culture of employee engagement and development.

What You Will Do

  • Partner with senior leaders as a strategic advisor to identify, prioritize, and execute HR initiatives aligned with organizational strategy, operational goals, and workforce needs.
  • Translate business objectives into effective people strategies related to talent planning, engagement, retention, and performance management.
  • Act as a trusted coach and thought partner to leaders and HR generalist, providing guidance on employee relations, performance management, corrective action, accommodations, compensation and benefits.
  • Lead and support change management efforts, including organizational changes, restructuring, policy implementation, and engagement initiatives.
  • Diagnose organizational and people-related challenges using data, observation, and stakeholder input; recommend and implement practical, sustainable solutions.
  • Analyze HR metrics and workforce data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities; develop clear storytelling and data-driven recommendations for leaders.
  • Manage complex and sensitive employee relations matters, ensuring fair, consistent, and legally compliant outcomes.
  • Ensure HR policies, procedures, and practices are applied consistently while exercising judgment to meet business needs.
  • Serve as an escalation point for high-impact people issues, balancing urgency, risk mitigation, and long-term organizational health.

What You Will Have:

  • Education: Degree or equivalent experience desired
  • Business Acumen: Knowledge of business concepts, tools, and processes that are needed for making sound decisions in the context of the company's business; ability to apply this knowledge appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Knowledge of Organization: Knowledge of the organization's vision, structure, culture, philosophy, operating principles, values, and code of ethics; ability to understand the value of aligning capabilities with business goals to support optimal performance.
  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
  • Influencing: Knowledge of effective influencing tactics and strategies; ability to impact decisions within and outside own organization.
  • Data Gathering and Reporting: Knowledge of tools, techniques and processes for gathering and reporting data; ability to practice them in a particular department or division of a company.
  • Employee Relations: Knowledge of the rights and obligations in the employee relations; ability to adhere to legal requirements when handling employee negotiations.
  • HR: Policies, Standards and Procedures: Knowledge of human resource function; ability to uphold the organization's and industry's standards, procedures and policies regarding human resources management.
  • Talent Management : Knowledge of how an organization attracts, recruits, retains, identifies and develops talent; ability to develop the talent required for an organization to achieve its short-term and long-term goals.

Top Candidates Will Have

  • Previous experience partnering with leaders in manufacturing, operations, or large-scale industrial environments
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex employee relations, investigations, or high-risk people issues
  • Experience with Workday or a similar HRIS, along with strong data literacy skills
  • Change management or organizational development experience
  • Proven ability to operate independently while collaborating effectively across HR and the business

Additional Info:

  • The primary location for this position is Lafayette, IN
  • This role requires 5 days a week in office
  • Domestic relocation is available for those who qualify

Summary Pay Range:

$112,710.00 - $169,060.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
