Our  Product Support and Logistics Division (PSLD)  is one of the most innovative divisions within Caterpillar. In PSLD, as within all of Caterpillar, our priority is our customers and helping them build a better world. We touch nearly every element of the services value stream from procurement to design and manufacturing to distribution. PSLD is responsible for Aftermarket Parts Distribution of Cat Parts, Integrated Logistics, segment Procurement and the design and manufacture of Wear Components (Undercarriage and GET) and Maintenance Components (Seals, Tubes & Hardware, Hose & Couplings, Fluids and Filters). 

As the Logistics Consultant within our Americas Transportation group, you will develop, implement, and continuously improve all logistics processes to maximize efficiency and productivity.

What You Will Do:

  • Act as a champion and advocate for Lean, providing training and coaching to immediate Americas team members along with customers and suppliers.
  • Strong focus on value chain engineering, designing, and delivering Continuous Improvement processes/projects across the Americas Transportation team.
  • Portfolio Manager accountable for monitoring progress of projects, discussing problems with affected areas, assuring appropriate personnel are informed of problems and place steps in place to meet project timelines.
  • Leading Monthly governance reviews with region covering key KPI’s, Projects, Results, and actions to deliver superior performance.
  • Establishes relationships and collaborates with business partners such across each vertical across Americas region focusing on driving value chain value by enhanced communications and governance with customers across the enterprise.
  • The position often confronts complex issues or problems which require careful analysis and diagnosis.  Problems are often unique, and solutions can require original approaches.  The incumbent may modify existing approaches or develop new solutions to improve quality, velocity and cost across the business.
  • Leads 2-3 moderately complex projects at a time starting from project chartering, solution design, implementation and through to stabilization.
  • Other duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time-to-time.


What You Have (Basic Requirements):

  • Planning:  Tactical & Strategic:   Knowledge of effective planning techniques and ability to contribute to operational (short term), tactical (1-2 years) and strategic (3-5 years) planning in support of the overall business plan.
    • Reviews and consults on the final strategic plan in collaboration with the business units.
    • Monitors industry for innovations in planning processes.
    • Directs the development, maintenance, and communication of own function's strategic plan.
    • Contributes to the overall strategic business goals and plans of the organization.
    • Creates and implements a strategy for supporting current and future business needs.
    • Develops long-term strategies to deliver services that keep pace with technology trends.
  • Collaborating:   Knowledge of collaborative techniques; ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.
    • Demonstrates experience shifting the organizational culture from information hording and internal competition to information sharing and collaboration.
    • Conceptualizes organizational structural changes to promote collaboration.
    • Designs recognition and reward systems that reward collaborative, rather than competitive, behavior.
    • Eliminates organizational tools (such as organization charts, performance reviews, and traditional meetings) that discourage collaboration.
    • Replaces performance reviews with results previews of collaborative work towards common goals.
    • Ensures that collaboration is not overused and does not result in too much time being spent on trivial matters, the diffusion of responsibility, and other counter-productive behaviors.
  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking:   Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
  • Logistics Management:   Knowledge of logistics and management; ability to follow proper processes and run operations for effective and efficient movement of materials and finished products.
    • Assists in the development of process flows to track lead time by activity.
    • Uses tools, with guidance, to forecast delivery times, determine costs and assess performance.
    • Maintains records of all shipments and invoices using an established system.
    • Participates in integrating logistics processes and developing effective networks.
    • Works with logistics in a domestic environment.
  • Manufacturing Technologies and Systems:   Knowledge of technologies and applications used in manufacturing products; ability to operate and optimize them in the manufacturing processes.
    • Discusses major issues associated with implementing new technologies.
    • Assists in maintaining or troubleshooting core technologies and systems used in own function.
    • Works with core basic technologies and systems used in one's own manufacturing function.
    • Contributes to the development of business case analysis for a specific new technology.
    • Participates in the evaluation, selection and piloting of new technologies.
  • Problem Management Process:   Knowledge of manufacturing problem management processes, methodologies and techniques; ability to use a disciplined approach to bringing that problem to a successful resolution.

What Will Set You Apart (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business Administration, Engineering, or related field.
  • Lean and/or 6 Sigma Black Belt Certification/Experience.
  • Previous experience leading complex cross-functional programs.
  • Previous experience with data analytics and/or Power BI.
  • Previous experience communicating with executive leadership.
  • Project Management Certification (PMP).

Summary Pay Range:

$126,000.00 - $189,000.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
