Job Title: Accountant

Salary: £45,348 + (depending on experience)

Location : Shrewsbury (other UK sites considered)

About IPSD

Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L Cat® and Perkins engines that power over 5000 applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. Caterpillar Shrewsbury Limited (CSL) is responsible for the design, development, manufacturing and integration of engines and drivetrain packages to meet the needs of tracked and wheeled military products globally. CSL also provides remanufacturing services of industrial military engines, components and transmissions.

Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Caterpillar Defense Business Resources team as an Accountant at our facility in Shrewsbury.

You will support and advise the Commercial team on a variety of financial analysis, providing recommendations within challenging timescales. This position will also be responsible for complying with reporting requirements for our defence contracts. Whilst this opportunity sits in the Finance function, a key component of this role will be effective business partnering directly with the Commercial and Operations teams as well as other stakeholders from the wider business.

Additional Info :

2-3 days per month in Shrewsbury office is required

What You Will Do:

  • Business Partner with the Commercial Team, providing financial expertise, data, and analysis to support existing and future opportunities

  • Collaborate with Operations and Purchasing to fully understand current and future product costs

  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting for our defence contracts

  • Develop new tools and analytics to streamline product profitability analysis and provide enhanced decision support.

  • Present analysis to Senior Leaders and non-financial audiences

What You Have:

  • Financial Analysis: Knowledge of tools and approaches of financial analysis; ability to read, interpret and draw accurate conclusions from financial and numerical material.

  • Cost-Benefit Analysis: Knowledge of the principles and tools used in cost-benefit analysis; ability to analyse the purpose and scope of a producer, product, process, or project in terms of cost and benefits.

  • Accuracy and Attention to Detail: Understanding the necessity and value of accuracy; ability to complete tasks with high levels of precision.

  • Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.

  • Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviours.

  • Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.

  • Managing Multiple Priorities: Knowledge of effective self-management practices; ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities, making effective judgments as to prioritizing and time allocation.

  • Education/Experience:

        Certification (CIMA, ACCA or equivalent)

        Experience of accounting within a manufacturing environment
