About IPSD:

Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L engines that not only power Caterpillar machines, but also power over 5000 other applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. Caterpillar’s company strategy includes sustainability as one of four focus areas and IPSD is engaged and actively preparing green energy solutions for the future.

Job Summary
Caterpillar is seeking an Engineering Manager within our Engine Testing Operations Team. In this role you will supervise two shifts of experimental mechanics through the day-to-day operations of engine testing. Further you will lead our manufacturing team by maintaining and improving processes and systems that are used in the testing of IPSD-L engines. This position plays a key role in ensuring production goals are achieved safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards, while fostering a culture of teamwork and continuous improvement.

What You Will Do:

  • Supervising a team of experimental mechanics through effective coaching and training, clear communication of job expectations, and positive reinforcement of exemplary performance; maintaining a positive working environment.

  • Lead a team of Manufacturing Engineers who support the operations of engine testing.

  • Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols, quality standards, and operational procedures.

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Experimental Mechanics and Manufacturing Engineers to maximize productivity and engagement.

  • Daily tie-in with production management to designate workload, priorities and sequence for work assigned.

  • Determines overtime need, determines priorities when resources are insufficient, and decides when disciplinary action is necessary.

  • Works to improve processes, timeliness, and reduce costs by eliminating non-value-added activities.

  • Implement various corporate initiatives such as Safety Driven, 5S, Lean Manufacturing, 6 Sigma, etc.

What You Will Have:
Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.

Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.


Customer/Market Focus: Understanding of the importance of remaining aware of shifting market priorities and ability to respond to internal and external customer needs in a manner that consistently adds value.

Managing People: Knowledge of processes involved in managing people; ability to lead successful teams, and diligently address issues related to performance and conflicts at the workplace.

Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.

Education: Degree required.

Summary Pay Range:

$128,470.00 - $192,710.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
