Overview

As the Component Content Management System (CCMS) Product Owner, you will lead the strategic and operational rollout of the marketing CCMS across the global marketing organization. A CCMS is a specialized platform that manages content as reusable, structured components, rather than whole documents, so teams can efficiently create, govern, assemble, and reuse content across multiple channels and products. This role owns the end‑to‑end CCMS implementation, including platform setup, configuration, and user onboarding to support scalable, governed content operations. As part of the Digital Marketing Team, you will work closely with marketing, legal, engineering, and content writers to standardize a new approach to creating and managing component-based content.

Business Impact

This role drives enterprise value by accelerating adoption of the CCMS through effective onboarding, training, workflow design, and governance. By leading the shift from page‑based content production to structured, reusable, AI‑ready components, you will enable consistent, scalable customer experiences across all channels and establish the CCMS as the single source of truth for structured marketing content. As a result, marketing content becomes more trusted, discoverable, reusable, and governed, which delivers a measurable ROI as part of Caterpillar’s broader Content Supply Chain strategy.

Key business outcomes include reduced manual authoring effort, faster speed to market, and higher‑quality content that is trusted, easily discoverable, and reusable ultimately driving greater operational efficiency for marketing teams across the enterprise.

Primary Responsibilities

1. CCMS Strategy & Product Ownership

  • Lead enterprise onboarding and adoption of the CCMS, ensuring teams understand how to create, manage, and reuse content components effectively.

  • Define and own the vision, roadmap, and success metrics for the CCMS platform.

  • Work with DAM, PIM, and Application Product Owners to ensure seamless integration between the CCMS and downstream systems.

  • Partner with engineering teams to oversee initial CCMS implementation while managing daily operations related to onboarding and ongoing application maintenance.

2. Own and Lead the End-To-End Content Migration and Modernization

  • Own the end‑to‑end migration strategy from legacy, unstructured content into the CCMS including scope, sequencing, and phased transition approach.

  • Conduct content assessments to identify duplication, siloed repositories, and quality gaps.

  • Treat structured content as a strategic asset to drive adoption and promote component-based content throughout the Content Supply Chain.

3. Enable Structured Content and DITA Adoption

  • Support the enterprise adoption of DITA-based structured authoring.

  • Partner with subject matter experts to identify reusable components and edge‑case content.

  • Guide authors through the transition from writers to content orchestrators to operationalize “Create Once, Publish Everywhere” content models.

  • Collaborate closely with the CSC Program Manager to align communication, training, and change management needs.

4. Establish Governance, Standards, and AI Integration for CCMS

  • Work with the CSC Program Manager to align on naming conventions, metadata, and governance needs.

  • Enable content reuse and variation strategies that reduce duplication, accelerate localization, and lower translation costs.

  • Develop and deliver role-based training, documentation, and enablement materials to support sustained CCMS adoption.

  • Define and measure KPIs for reuse, consistency, adoption, and speed to publish to drive continuous optimization of content operations.

  • Define the role of AI in content workflows to support authoring assistance and automation.

Considerations For Top Candidates

  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in Marketing, Communications, Business, Information Systems, or a related field.

  • Background in content operations, marketing systems, or digital content management applications within a large or complex organization.

  • Extensive experience in written content creation within marketing operations, with a strong understanding of content workflows and the end-to-end content lifecycle.

  • Hands‑on experience implementing or scaling structured, modular, or component‑based content models.

  • Strong understanding and interest in supporting content governance, including metadata strategy, taxonomy design, and content lifecycle.

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to navigate sensitive, emotional, or potentially controversial situations involving stakeholder conflict, compliance issues, or resistance to change.

  • Experience managing and prioritizing a product backlog to maximize business value, balancing urgent business needs with existing commitments, and partnering closely with engineering to track delivery and validate releases.

  • Demonstrated strength in communication and change management to drive adoption, align stakeholders, and ensure new processes are adopted across the enterprise.

  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with a global team across multiple different business units.

  • Exposure to localization, translation workflows, or global content delivery models.

  • Familiarity with Product Information Management (PIM) or Content Management Systems (CMS) and the Adobe Marketing Products (Workfront, Frame.io, AEM Assets, and Firefly Services).
