As a Senior Welding Engineer at Caterpillar, you will lead and participate in the design and process development of structural components to ensure outstanding strength and fatigue performance in CWL. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to the advancement of welding automation in Caterpillar’s China facilities, ensuring high welding efficiency and low welding costs.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provided on side welding technology service for CWL automatic welding line building & upgrading, and BCP structure welding process development.

  • Possess strong expertise in advanced welding assembly of construction machinery structural components and automated production in welding plants, and drive the application of new welding technologies in Caterpillar’s China facilities.

  • Understand the production processes of welded structural components in Caterpillar China plants, and support upgrades in welding plant layout and material flow in Caterpillar China structural component facilities.

  • Support Caterpillar’s structural component engineering design team by optimizing structural component designs based on welding characteristics and practices in China.

  • Analyze failed welded components to identify the direct causes of failure, and assist in benchmarking competitors’ welded parts to better understand their quality levels and cost control practices.

• Matches testing methodology and tools to product being tested; develops test scenarios and scripts.

• Estimates time, effort and resources required for thorough testing.

Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing or product development environment.

Level Working Knowledge:

• Documents common hardware, software and communications problems and likely resolutions.

• Troubleshoots typical technical problems in a specific area.

• Works with vendor-specific diagnostic guides, tools and utilities to discover application problems.

• Adheres to standard troubleshooting procedures to ensure effectiveness of resolutions.

• Participates in setting evaluation standards and criterion for troubleshooting.

Prefer Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree or above in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.

  • Good project management skills, especially for welding line building and structure welding process development.

  • Familiarity with welding standards for construction machinery components, including GB, ISO, ASTM, etc.; strong expertise in advanced welding assembly of structural components and automated welding production; solid understanding of the relationship among steel materials, welding processes, and the strength and fatigue performance of welded components.

  • Experience in welding of engineering structural components.

  • Good command of English in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, with strong communication skills.

  • Basic programming capability, such as Python, C, C++, etc.

This position requires the candidate to work a 5-day-a-week schedule in the office.
