ProcurementJob Description:
Your Work Shapes the World at Caterpillar Inc.
When you join Caterpillar, you're joining a global team who cares not just about the work we do – but also about each other. We are the makers, problem solvers, and future world builders who are creating stronger, more sustainable communities. We don't just talk about progress and innovation here – we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.
As a Facility Procurement Professional, you will manage supply network procurement activities across multiple U.S. manufacturing facilities, serving as a key link between procurement, supply chain, and facility operations. This role supports high‑volume Integrated Component Facilities (ICD) and specialty manufacturing environments. You will contribute to procurement excellence by enabling a lean, responsive, and resilient flow of materials and services from supplier to dock, supporting strong integration with facility leadership and uninterrupted operations.
In this role, you will partner closely with facility teams, suppliers, and category buyers to ensure accurate purchase order execution, strong supplier performance, and timely support of manufacturing needs. Success requires a hands‑on, solutions‑oriented mindset, strong ERP capability (primarily SAP), and the ability to navigate the realities of a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.
What makes this role exciting:
This position has broad operational impact, working closely with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Logistics, Category Purchasing, and suppliers to resolve issues, manage risk, and improve performance. You will identify opportunities for cost and inventory reduction, quality improvement, and sound purchasing decisions, while gaining meaningful exposure in a moderately complex, high‑transaction environment supporting thousands of active part numbers and dozens of suppliers.
What you will do:
Manage supplier relationship management and facility relationship management across approximately five U.S. manufacturing facilities.
Execute and maintain purchase order management within ERP systems (primarily SAP; some Mach1 facility exposure), ensuring timely updates, accuracy, and alignment with manufacturing requirements.
Partner with category buyers to incorporate supplier, pricing, and demand updates into purchase orders and transactional activity.
Collaborate with analysts to ensure effective data management, reporting, and issue resolution across supported facilities.
Support invoice review and resolution, working cross‑functionally to address discrepancies and maintain smooth procure‑to‑pay processes.
Act as a bridge between procurement and supply chain teams, helping facilities strengthen execution where procurement and supply capabilities are still maturing.
Proactively identify and resolve supplier and facility issues, applying a solution‑focused, problem‑solving approach that prioritizes progress and collaboration.
Support manufacturing operations by understanding and responding to material flow challenges, production variability, and supplier constraints inherent to manufacturing environments.
What skills you have:
Analytical Thinking: Ability to define problems, perform root‑cause analysis, evaluate alternatives, and recommend effective solutions.
Data‑Driven Decision Making: Ability to gather, interpret, and apply data and KPIs to guide procurement and supply decisions.
Effective Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with suppliers and cross‑functional stakeholders.
Manufacturing Requirements Planning (MRP): Working knowledge of MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Lognet, QAD, MACH1 or similar) to support production and materials planning.
Supplier Management – Manufacturing: Experience managing supplier relationships, resolving delivery and quality issues, and supporting supplier performance improvement.
Top candidates will also have:
A Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Operations, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience in manufacturing or facility‑based procurement.
Demonstrated purchasing or procurement experience supporting a manufacturing or plant environment, ideally across multiple facilities.
Experience with supplier development and improving supplier performance, delivery, or quality.
Understanding of the operational headwinds of manufacturing, including material variability, production constraints, and supplier disruptions.
Exposure to Lean Manufacturing, Quality systems, and continuous improvement principles.
Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI), supplier tooling, pilot builds, or early‑phase production.
Professional certifications such as CPM, CPIM, CIRM, or comparable international certifications.
Membership or affiliation with Institute for Supply Management (ISM), APICS, or similar professional organizations.
Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt experience.
