Job Description:

Your Work Shapes the World at Caterpillar Inc.

When you join Caterpillar, you're joining a global team who cares not just about the work we do – but also about each other. We are the makers, problem solvers, and future world builders who are creating stronger, more sustainable communities. We don't just talk about progress and innovation here – we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.

As part of Caterpillar’s Resource Industries Electrification Solutions (RIES) team, the Electrification Value Chain Manager plays a critical role at the forefront of mining electrification. This is a high-visibility, high-impact leadership role, where you will be hands‑on to design, build, and execute customer‑back, end‑to‑end value chains that enable next‑generation electrified mining solutions.

What makes this role exciting:

In this role, you will directly support and shape the real-world performance of Cat® Dynamic Energy Transfer, a Caterpillar-developed technology that delivers energy to diesel-electric and battery-electric mining trucks while in operation. You will collaborate closely with suppliers, customers, dealers, and multiple Caterpillar teams to ensure availability, cost, quality, and resilience across the end-to-end value chain.

You won’t just support electrification technology, you will define how it scales, performs, and succeeds in the field.

What you will do:

  • Lead and develop value chain engineering teams, including staffing, coaching, performance management, and succession planning

  • Design and optimize electrification value chains by working backward from customer, dealer, and site requirements to define planning, sourcing, and manufacturing strategies

  • Drive high-impact, long-duration value chain engineering and continuous improvement initiatives to meet engineering, quality, and business commitments

  • Partner closely with logistics, operations, product engineering, process engineering, product support, lifecycle management, suppliers, dealers, and customers

  • Manage value chain risk, recovery, and resilience planning for foreseeable and unforeseen disruptions

  • Translate demand signals and product roadmaps into capacity, resource, and production plans

  • Develop and evaluate business cases to support value chain investments, trade-offs, and strategic decisions

  • Establish governance, metrics, and operating rhythms to sustain performance and accountability

What skills you will have:

Business Acumen

  • Designs planning processes and decision‑making channels that support electrification value chains deployed at active mine sites

  • Explains business issues and trends within Resource Industries electrification programs and how they compare to other Caterpillar businesses

  • Demonstrates a big‑picture understanding of how technology performance, supplier capability, customer uptime, and financial outcomes are interconnected

  • Applies strong business fundamentals, metrics, and financial acumen to evaluate cost, availability, uptime, and investment trade‑offs

  • Develops and reviews business cases supporting electrification scale‑up, supplier strategies, and site‑specific value chain decisions

Planning (Tactical & Strategic)

  • Develops and communicates tactical execution plans supporting electrification deployment.

  • Provides appropriate planning detail to support multi‑year electrification roadmaps and scaling strategies

  • Links near‑term execution activities (site readiness, supply assurance, commissioning) to long‑term Resource Industries electrification strategy

  • Manages cross‑functional interdependencies across logistics, engineering, suppliers, and site operations to maintain execution discipline

  • Allocates resources in line with technical requirements, mine‑site constraints, and business priorities

  • Ensures planning processes are integrated with overall Caterpillar business and electrification strategies

Process Management

  • Coaches teams on process value analysis to improve end‑to‑end electrification value chain performance

  • Evaluates, diagnoses, and optimizes processes spanning supplier networks, site logistics, installation, and operational support

  • Demonstrates a deep understanding of major process flows impacting energy transfer systems, machine uptime, and availability

  • Synchronizes work and resource requirements across Caterpillar teams, suppliers, dealers, and customer site stakeholders

  • Designs and implements processes that enhance value chain resilience, scalability, and operational reliability for first‑of‑kind and scaling technologies

Quality Management

  • Uses quality indicators relevant to electrification systems, site deployment, and operational performance

  • Adheres to Caterpillar quality management processes while operating in dynamic, customer‑facing mine environments

  • Applies continuous improvement methods to improve technology performance, reliability, and uptime

  • Uses inspections, walkthroughs, and field feedback to identify and mitigate quality risks early

  • Partners with quality assurance teams to support safe, reliable electrification solutions

Decision Making & Critical Thinking

  • Differentiates assumptions, perspectives, and historical context when making decisions in new‑technology and site‑specific environments

  • Evaluates prior deployment and operational decisions to improve future electrification execution

  • Assesses options and predicts impacts related to supplier readiness, site constraints, schedule, cost, and customer outcomes

  • Advises cross‑functional leaders using synthesized data and structured alternatives

  • Applies appropriate decision‑making styles (consultative, command, or consensus) in high‑visibility, high‑impact situations

  • Challenges assumptions and received wisdom when deploying new electrification technologies

Capacity Planning & Management (Manufacturing):

  • Partners with R&D to plan capacity and resource requirements for electrification systems under development and deployment

  • Creates consolidated forecasts across multiple products, suppliers, and facilities supporting mining electrification

  • Leads short‑ and long‑term capacity planning cycles aligned to pilot, scale‑up, and production phases

  • Evaluates alternative capacity strategies to balance speed, cost, and risk

  • Develops cost estimates for incremental capacity required to support electrification growth

  • Translates demand signals into actionable production and capacity requirements

Industrial Engineering (Manufacturing)

  • Assesses root causes of failures in manufacturing or site‑related systems supporting electrification solutions

  • Collects production, safety, and capability data from manufacturing and deployment environments

  • Applies industrial engineering principles to improve flow, safety, and efficiency

  • Follows standards and policies to identify and report industrial engineering issues

  • Engages in operational discussions related to manufacturing and site execution performance

Strategic Sourcing

  • Monitors execution across all stages of strategic sourcing for critical electrification components and systems

  • Trains and mentors others on strategic sourcing practices in complex, multi‑stakeholder environments

  • Designs and develops standard supplier agreements supporting new technology deployment and scaling

  • Leads complex sourcing activities including negotiations, contracting, and continuous improvement

  • Consults on sourcing strategies relative to supplier integration, dependencies, and mine‑site realities

  • Communicates strategic sourcing best practices and rationale internally and externally

Education requirement:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculums

Top candidates will also have:

  • Experience with Customer‑Back Value Chain Design, aligning supply chain, manufacturing, and sourcing strategies to customer needs and delivery commitments

  • Strong understanding of end‑to‑end Order‑to‑Delivery systems, including demand planning, capacity planning, sourcing, manufacturing, and logistics

  • Experience supporting electrification, electric drive systems, battery-electric or diesel-electric equipment, or high-voltage industrial systems

  • Background in capacity planning, resource planning, and demand-to-production translation

  • Knowledge of industrial engineering principles in manufacturing or heavy equipment environments

  • Experience with strategic sourcing, supplier negotiations, contracting, and supplier performance improvement

  • Track record of leading value chain transformation or new technology industrialization

  • Comfort working hands-on at customer or site-based locations with high operational visibility
