Job Title: Project Consultant

Salary: £55,516 - £69,395 per annum dependent upon experience

Location: Peterborough, UK

About IPSD

Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L Cat® and Perkins engines that power over 5000 applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. Caterpillar’s company strategy includes sustainability as one of four focus areas and IPSD is engaged and actively preparing green energy solutions for the future.

Job Summary

  • To identify and lead strategic projects and process improvement activities that support our global IPSD manufacturing facilities, engines only. This project role is a focal point for performing project management tasks across teams, including establishing goals, identifying, and leading projects to support the Order to Delivery strategy. Projects will be including product cost optimisation, footprint utilisation and risk mitigation and business process enhancement.

  • This role is accountable for executing programs and leading implementation teams to achieve agreed upon targets and target dates with required functionality.

  • Responsibilities include the overall success of the projects/programs including the establishing of metrics/targets, monitoring progress and reporting status in governance reviews with senior stakeholders.

Additional Info

  • This position is currently a hybrid in-office work model, requiring 3-day weekly office presence onsite at our Peterborough office, with remote work for the remaining days.  However, work arrangements may be adjusted at any time based on business needs. 

  • Travel – maybe once a year – Wuxi, Griffin, Hosur, Curitiba

What You Will Do

  • Identifies and develops strategic projects and programs from concept through to implementation, collaborating and communicating high-level strategies/policies to appropriate enterprise personnel.

  • Gathers voice of the business, customers and process partners and translates into requirements to define the scope of strategic programs, establish metrics and targets. Tracks and provides scorecards related to the program metrics. Provides guidance and prioritization to project and leadership teams as needed. Leads and works with global program and project teams to provide change management recommendations (communication, learning, and reinforcement plans) to accurately manage expectations of stakeholders throughout development and implementation of projects.

  • Individual will lead projects & when appropriate individual may mentor, coach, sponsor projects being led by other team members.

  • This position acts as an advisor or consultant to senior management on areas related to the Global Manufacturing Engineering Technology strategy. The incumbent may serve as a company-wide resource on a highly specialized area or serve multiple units in a broader functional area and assist senior management in interpreting and using information provided.

  • The position is challenged to carefully evaluate problems and review a large number of possible solutions before selecting one option. Problems may be complex and can require the incumbent to develop solutions. The incumbent is free to determine the best way to complete job assignments in order to achieve desired results.

What You Have

  • Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.

  • Relationship Management: Knowledge of relationship management techniques; ability to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with clients, vendors, and peers.

  • Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.

  • Influencing: Knowledge of effective influencing tactics and strategies; ability to impact decisions within and outside own organization.

Candidates may have gained the following skills and experience through previous roles:

  • Experience working with financial data and completing analysis for reports

  • Black Belt, Project Management and Change Management certification
